The Cross Inn — Restaurant in Wales

The Cross Inn is old but had a thorough "wash and brush-up" late 2011. It is a Brains pub, but now that these are now operated by Marston's, serving the excellent locally brewed range of beers and lagers along with the standard selection of Strongbow, Guinness, Carling and Carlsberg Export. They do serve food from lunchtime till early evening - though I've never tried it myself (I prefer eating out a little later than when they stop serving - usually 7 or 8pm). Friends have said it's fine. It's now from the Marston's selection so there's little variation between the local pubs. "The Cross" being near the centre of Rumney Village and just alongside the shops, is usually quite busy and more of a pub persons pub than others in the area. Out of 24 mains and sandwiches there is only 1 vegan option. Sorry but that is poor. These days it seems every restaurant feels they must have meat or dairy in every meal - there are lots of flavours in the plant world so it shows a lack of creativity. Before this time meat and dairy were a treat a few times a week but we have become obsessed with it in every meal and every day. The UN is now recommending more plant based meals because you can have the same calories and protein using less land, water and emissions. Please consider this and I’d be happy to update this review to 5 stars with more vegan options. I’d like to thank the Landlord, and his team for an amazing day. Celebrating my 50th birthday this weekend. Had a lush night out Saturday for drinks and a meal. So the visit to the cross was meant to be a couple of chilled hours out but ended up with family and friends turning up to make it a day to remember. To top it off there was even a Karaoke for us to ruin some great songs!!!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Cross and I can’t thank Mike for accommodating us so well. Great time had by all and I’m sure the pub will have gained a few more regulars after today.
