The Marquis Arms — Restaurant in Wales

Post shopping trip, tea time treat. Looks very welcoming from the car park, lots of other cars, always a good sign. A lovely warm glow from the inside and the garden (even tho a damp evening) was well lit, clean and welcoming. Inside, most tables were full apart from the ones directly under the TV screens (football). We found a quiet corner, chose our food, went to bar. We were met by very pleasant staff. Two bearded gents, one taking our order the other telling us about up coming offers and showing us around the app. The app gave free drinks and 5 pounds off the food bill. How good is that ?? The young lady who brought our food over was pleasant also. The interior is clean, but a bit tired. Tables a bit worn in patches, a few tables not cleared. It's a busy place so a few uncleared tables don't bother me much. Families, couples and a few lads made up the clientel. Lots of chatting can be heard, we could not hear the football (we didn't want to) and if there was music, we didn't hear it. Unfortunately, no Mayo !! In a pub that serves food, lost a mark from me. All in all, great choice, tidy food, 4 out of 5 stars. By the way, we had a sirloin surf and turf and a jerk chicken skewer on a bed of sizzling veg, both with chips. One coffee one shandy 25 pounds. We ordered food , being warned that there was a 30 minute delay which we understood and accepted. However it arrived over an hour late, with no apology and my daughters food was quite disappointing. We just ate and accepted it was a failed/mediocre pub meal but to add insult to injury our dessert never came. After an hour and a half we asked the bar staff to let us have it to take away when a member of kitchen staff gave us the dessert in a box but missing some ingredients such as the banana topping for the named banana cheesecake. The lady did apologise for waiting for the dessert but this was unfortunately not enough to justify what was some of the worst service I've ever had. We also sat at a table which previously sat other guests, with their half finished drinks and food, including sharp knives which were never cleaned which was a bit of a hazard with a toddler. The salt shaker was also faulty and wouldn't work. It was overwhelmingly substandard and for a busy night this may be understandable but for a Monday at midday, in a relatively empty venue it really...

Have recently started going back to this pub, I find the drinks a little bit pricey. Anyway having had quite a few bad experiences with their foodin the past, I decided to give them another try, my first meal was fish and chips, the fish was more like the size of a baby shark(big portion), my second meal was the gammon, egg and chips, lovely. I like my steak blue and it's never been cooked to my liking, but based on the last two meals I decided give it a go.OMG I could see instantly when my steak arrived it was cooked just as I like it it was, blue absolutely gorgeous I had to let Paul the manager know that my steak was on the same level as some of the top restaurants, if this the forward for them I would throughly reccomend you give them a go, well done guys 😀😀😀👍👍👍 went there today, what felt like a life time waiting to be served at the bar, people came to the bar after me and got served before me, the bar staff reckoned the didn't see me am I black or what !! and it was freezing inside not very happy too say the least shocking way to treat customers...
