Really upsetting experience. Chose this spot because of the great reviews but disappointed big time. The atmosphere itself was stellar for sure and the bartender was very sweet, that I will give them. The problem was that we waited over an hour for our pizzas and when they came they were so dry it was as if there wasn’t even sauce on them. No one asked how it was until we asked for a takeout box and of course, only as passing. This is a pay at the bar and wait for your meal place so we were stuck. Also, if you only have limited space to cook pizzas, shouldn’t we be told it would be a wait for our food? We are traveling, exhausted, and just wanted our pizzas in 20 minutes like a regular pizza place. I’ve been in the service industry a long time and have worked at pizza places. I’m appalled. It had already been a hour when I asked about the pizzas, the server said they were just put in, and we waited again more than 20 minutes. That said, had we had sauce on them, they would have tasted good- the cheese and ingredients themselves had quality but wow, it was like eating dry bread. So upsetting. Wish I had had my phone to take a picture. What we were served looks nothing like the photos posted on...
Read moreI came to Stag Inn for a pizza over the weekend. I joined the queue and waited politely for around 5 minutes. When I reached the front and was ready to order, the bartender mentioned there were only 7 doughs left. I asked, “What should I do?” and instead of answering, he started taking orders from others who seemed to have been there earlier, though no one had been asked to order until then. He also asked a random person walking by did he have pizza.
After taking their orders, he told me the dough had run out. It felt like there was no clear system in place, and locals were being prioritized while I was left uncertain and eventually missed out — despite waiting in good faith.
The place has a nice atmosphere, but better communication and a fairer process would go a long way, especially when demand is high and...
Read moreSuch a great local, everyone's so friendly and the place has a great vibe. Judging from old photos on here the refurb is a huge improvement (replacing the gambling machine for a giant beer fridge is a big win!) We assume it has new owners who are pouring love into it! It's a perfect cosy old pub, with a lovely garden & a nice new (but still in-keeping with the style of the building) interior. They've kept some of the big brewery classics on tap but have introduced really interesting craft brewery beers via draught and in the new big fridge. They also sell the most incredible blue cheese pies sourced from T J Roberts butchers in Bala which we ended up visiting because we were so impressed. 10/10 we've not even bothered to go to any other pub in Dolgellau because we love...
