Rhyl in North Wales has always been a family favourite. I spent a lot of time there as a child and with my own children. Children love it.
There's nothing like fish and chips at the seaside, so with a break in the wet weather and Rhyl only an hour from home, I decided to visit The Town Fryer.
On entering, it first appears a bit cramped, but feels more open as you look around, with about six tables in the front and a couple in the back, where the toilets are also situated. The shop and particularly the toilets looked a bit tired but were clean and tidy. The staff were active, friendly, and appeared to work well together, creating a relaxed atmosphere.
The food was very reasonably priced and tasty. A large cod, chips, and peas, plus chilli con carne and chips, cost just £10.10 in total. For the large cod, another fillet was cut in half and placed on top of the full fillet, which was fine.
There was also a dine-in special at the time of my visit of cod, chips, mushy peas, and a pot of tea for just £5.50. Incredible value for the quality of the food.

Read moreWe found this place by chance on Sunday as we looked for somewhere to eat. It was busy but we were lucky there was 1 table free,so we had no wait. The staff were lovely, polite and very friendly. In no time at all,our orders were taken, and 3 of us opted for the oap fish, chips & peas deal, which included mushy peas (proper), bread & butter AND a drink.Priced at £5.95,we didn’t expect much to be honest, but we needn’t have worried. Our food was brought to the table in around 10 minutes, and we all looked at each other.Large fish, loads of chips, and proper mushy pease, which is not often the case these days. The fish was very well cooked, and the batter was crispy throughout, non of that uncooked gooey stodge between fish & batter. The 1 person in our group who opted for the large fish & chips couldn’t eat it all,and wished he’d opted for the oap deal, lol. The owner was a lovely lady, who interacted with all the customers. We will certainly be eating here again on our next visit to the...
Read moreI’ve been diagnosed with coeliac disease for just over a year and have really struggled to find fish and chip places that would accommodate. I was recommended somewhere else but upon finding that place Closed (when according to it’s opening times it should have been open) we started googling and stumbled across the town fryer. I gave them a quick call to check they could accommodate gluten free and all they asked was about 40 minutes notice to turn the separate fryer on. Sadly they did not have any batter for the fish but they made up for it by providing beautifully fried gluten free chips and extremely tasty steamed fish. They were so apologetic for the lack of batter but I implore anyone in the same position as me to give it a try. It was such a lovely change and they were so knowledgeable and careful to avoid cross contamination. This seems to available every day and added bonus free parking is available in the street at the side of the restaurant. Plus an...
