Cup Of Coffee - $2
Ground to order from locally roasted fairtrade beans, brewed by the best machine in West Wales - Carat V1, crafted and presented to you either to table in porcelain, or as a take-away. You choose how you'd like your tea, and just tell us.
Cup Of Coffee - $2
Freshly brewed to order in japanese heavy bottomed castiron pots. Choose from over 20 mixes of teas blended in Mid Wales. Many options available, between black, green and fruit infusions.
Kanapki
We have been serving "kanapki" sandwiches from the very beginning, and they have always been the bestsellers. Choice is different everyday, due to availability of produce and fantasy of chefess. Check blackboards for current menu, or tell us what combination you'd fancy. We bake our own bread for kanapki every morning, and they are available till it runs out. The all-time favourite is the acclaimed "grilled halloumi with avocado", but recently Reuben is fighting for top choice title.

One of the two highest-rated cafes/eateries in Carmarthen and absolutely deserves that accolade. Attached is Saturday 23rd's brunch menu for reference only.

We (2 of us) received a warm welcome, inadvertently chose Kidwelly Castle table (where sister lives, all tables have their own castle name, cute touch) and the welcome was warm and efficient, distributing menus, offering drinks and pointing out the Specials.

Dining partner had the Miso Mushrooms special, I had scrambled eggs, with a side of bacon and hash brown. What arrived was far beyond expectations, portions huge, utterly delicious. I normally don't bang on in too much detail but everything was utterly fresh, local, well-seasoned, constructed and creative (e.g. the mushrooms had slivers of brussel sprouts tossed through along with fresh herbs) and hot.

Most important to mention - they were the best hash browns I have ever tasted (and I'm a food snob who lives in Australia where food is seriously good).

The venue appears small but there's also a downstairs section expanding potential seating and the toilet was immaculate with individual hands towels ...

The whole place was a delight, which very much includes those who worked there. Why only 4 stars for Atmosphere? Other than 1 additional couple also eating brunch who left relatively shortly after we arrived, we were the only people there.

For anyone reading this ... Please make the effort and support this eaterie. It's worth every penny and needs to be in Carmarthen town centre for a long time to come .... Cheers.

PS, I'm not related to anyone who owns this joint or works...

Absolutely amazing cafe! Incredible food, made fresh every day. And it's clearly a huge hit with the locals, when I was in there, lots of people stopping in to say hi, have a chat, get a bit of coffee and maybe a cheeky slice of cake or something. It's easy to see why, as well, because it's such a nice and friendly vibe in there.

But for me, this isn't enough for 5 stars. What seals the deal for me is the food. Absolutely amazing. Without a doubt, probably the best food I've had since I've been in the UK. It's all made fresh and I even saw it being made.

My only regret was that I wasn't in Camarthen for the special gourmet dinner nights they have, I believe it's twice a month. I understand that the spaces are limited, and you should probably book in advance, but I saw the next menu and it sounded extremely exciting. I hope to come back to Carmarthen with my girlfriend some day soon, and I'll try and time it to coincide with the gourmet night, what a perfect date it will be.

So, all in all, absolutely fantastic cafe, very friendly and warm atmosphere and the most...

Met a friend for lunch today at Y Barbican. It was very busy. We had a 15 minute wait for a table, so we sat outside while we had a drink. The only available table was downstairs, which is quite dark, so we requested to eat outside instead. Despite being very busy, the waitress was thoroughly understanding and amenable and thankfully, the rain held off! I had courgette and mozzarella fritters with a selection of salads, fermented cabbage, grated carrot, tabbouleh, beetroot hummus which was a feast for the eyes! The fritters were absolutely delicious and the rest of the plate fresh and full of flavour. I left enough room for almond tart with cream, which was perfect….lovely light pastry. My friend had smoked salmon with poached eggs from the brunch menu which was also delicious. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience at a reasonable price. The staff are friendly, informative and professional. Given the space available, the food produced here is magic! Well done,...

Y Barbican is one of my favourite places to lunch. The food is absolutely delicious, I've tried 3 different lunch items now and each one has been incredible. The portions are large, the food is freshly cooked (you are seated close to the chefs so you can see how hard they are working). The staff greeting you are always friendly and attentive when taking orders. The dining area is small and seating is limited, but it is well worth waiting if it is full. I can't recommend Y Barbican enough! My only criticism (if it can be called a criticism) is there aren't many options for vegans on the menu, so there are certain friends I probably wouldn't bring here yet, however with the menu constantly changing I'm sure this will change over time.

Unbelievable food. You can really tell that the staff care about the quality of the food they serve. If you live in the area or are visiting, this is a must-try. Good energy in the kitchen and you can tell by the flavours! I’ve worked in food & wine industry for a good while and I was blown away by the food presentation, quality of ingredients, and the service. It was hard to choose what to order; luckily my table was keen to share lots of small plates. I would highly recommend sharing a few things. I will absolutely return to try more of the breakfast & daytime menu. Great wine options also. I was told that they update the menu regularly with seasonal ingredients so I’m very excited to keep visiting!
