14.02.22 Everyone deserves a second chance. Today my friends and I revisited Cafe Roux after being invited back, following our last visit. Today's experience, I am happy to say was totally different. Firstly the staff were very apologetic and very sincere. We had the perfect table, large enough for 4 and plenty of room for all of our food and drinks. Our afternoon tea was served. Everything was beautifully presented. A lovely mixture of sandwiches including, prawn, cheese, ham, egg. The cakes were amazing, chocolate brownies, crème brulé, macarons, scones with jam & cream, cupcakes. All presented with a selection of fresh fruits. We had a lovely afternoon and really enjoyed our afternoon tea. Thank you for taking the time in making sure our visit was a very happy experience.
05.02.22 Very disappointed. My friend booked our table 1 week ago, when we arrived we were told the booking had been cancelled, it turns out that ours wasn't the only booking cancelled today?? We had booked afternoon tea for 4 and at £16.95 per head we were expecting something special. Due to the mistake with the booking we were sat at a small round table, which meant our food was put on the table next to us due to lack of room. It was quite noisy in the cafe, not what you expect for afternoon tea. The service was ok and the staff very pleasant. The food arrived after having to wait longer, the vegetarian sandwiches were all white bread with just cheese or a salad wrap, no egg? The cakes were not as displayed in the cabinet, instead we were given cakes which very obviously came from Aldi next door. The chocolate cake and carrot cake cost £1.69 in Aldi!! accompanied by cheap jam/cream swiss roll. We would have expected at least 1 handmade cake or cupcake in the selection. Nothing like the images shown on the website. Sorry but I don't think the food or the service was worth £16.95. I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreBook a Prosecco afternoon tea for 13 people for a special occasion! We arrived at 12 and the table was all set up ready for us. We went to order a bottle of Prosecco only to be told that they were busy the night before and haven’t got any Prosecco I asked if they had Prosecco for the tea and was told that they were getting some for us, after 10 mins one of the girls come over n offered us champagne instead which was fine so we just ordered a cocktail while we waited for them to serve the champagne! The cocktails were awful, I honestly don’t think there was one drop of alcohol in them at all, just tasted like float fruity pop! I couple of other people ordered cider only to be served Aldi own cider and changed nearly £5 for a can! After waiting nearly 45 mins we still hadn’t been served the champagne, I went to the counter to ask when the drink would be served only to see that they walked over to Aldi n got the Prosecco which was served instead of the champagne and it was warm! Food arrived after nearly an hour and just seemed to have been rushed and chucked on the plates, some sandwiches were cut tiny like half the size of a finger sandwich a was missing filling’s, the cakes were ok but again looked like they got them from Aldi! When we went to pay, a couple of people were complaining about the food n serve but the girl on the counter didn’t seem interested and said there was nothing she can do as no managers were there! Overall very disappointing visit, not worth the money we paid at all, should of put drink aside knowing that they had a Prosecco afternoon tea the day after the busy night before or stocked up in the morning before we arrived, feels like we were forgot about and was just running to Aldi to get...
Read moreMy sister booked afternoon tea for a special 30th Birthday treat with all my closest friends and family. Cafe Roux made an error with the booking time and kindly asked us to bring it forward, which we agreed too. They werent set up when we arrived and we had to prompt them for our included prosecco. Upon attending we were told we needed to leave 2 hours later as they had another booking.. again we agreed too this. However 1.5 hours into our booking we were not asked, but told to leave as the next booking had arrived. We explained we had been told we had longer at the table, to which the waiter disagreed and said we needed to leave. We were in no rush to leave, had she asked kindly and apologised maybe we would have left, there was not one apology for the mix up and a lot of attitude from the waitress. My sister and friend paid an additional £50 for 2 bottles of prosecco to add to the already “poor” afternoon tea experience. The afternoon tea was thrown together with a pretty rubbish selection of sandwiches. We have received an apology with a complimentary afternoon tea, however not one of us are keen to return after such a rubbish experience. We asked for a refund of the overpriced Prosecco to which we have been told “its not our policy”. So you can happily take our money, but cannot return it as compensation for your own errors. Have visited many times and will most likely never return...
