Sadly disappointing experience. My wife booked the parlour for a private afternoon buffet for 27 people and paid in full in advance. The initial conversations highlighted that there would be a wide variety of sandwiches along with a wide variety of cakes as well as tea and coffee and all served on china.
We started to arrive on time and got seated. It seemed to me that we were an inconvenience being there. No warm reception at all. The sandwich display was not wide but very limited and the cake display was non existent. Burnt scones were all that was on display in the cake variety.
The traditional tea was a tea bag or two in a tea pot (I would have thought traditional would have been tea leaves) and the coffee was instant coffee in a tea pot, yes a tea pot for instant coffee. The cups were dainty china cups which was what was agreed but the plates were paper which was not agreed. 24 of us in total turned up.
From what I could see, the sandwiches and scones could have been bought from a local budget German franchise superstore for 10% of what my wife paid. In fact this is what it seems to have been.
We were only there for a little over 90 minutes and whilst it was good to see our friends, it was not really good value. We go to Wyevale Valley garden centres and have afternoon tea for two at less than we paid here and yet have so much more available as well as good tea and coffee.
My advice in future if you were considering going would be to have clearly agreed in writing what is being provided and for how much and to hold back half of the money until the day in order to have leverage if there are differences in what was offered and what was actually provided. I often find that money clarifies customer service.

ย ย ย Read moreAs a local resident, I decided to treat an elderly friend for lunch at this cafรฉ . Initially, it seemed promising but as we began tucking in, we were disappointed with the quality of food. The jacket potato was unevenly cooked while the cheese (filling) was low quality and tasteless with overcooked baked beans . Average presentation; tea was drinkable and the dessert (sort of cheesecake) tasted more like cheap jelly.
The nostalgic wartime memorabilia is slightly on the overbearing side and gives the cafรฉ a claustrophobic, cluttered and confined atmospheric feel .
The lone waitress was more interested in finding out whether we had a FB account in order to give the cafรฉ a high rating . She literally pigeonholed us at the end of our barely edible lunch . Neither I nor my veteran friend were on FB which didn't dissuade her a bit; she raced down to fetch a Customer Comments diary and ensured we scribbled in a compliment . Polite yet pushy .
So, first impressions do last. It isn't our kettle of fish nor does it offer our cuppa tea. Many other quality eating places around which offer incomparably better value for money, and super service .
We'd definitely...
ย ย ย Read moreWhat an amazing quirky little tea room. So much to see, with lots of vintage items filling the rooms and it was lovely to see some of their past family members, proudly displayed on the walls. It gave this little cafe a very cosy and warm feeling. They got a good range of hot/ cold drinks, sandwiches, breakfast specials, children's menu , lunch specials and of course their yummy scones! . For The Pigeon Parlour Afternoon Tea, it's recommended that you pre book the afternoon teas , in advance . I find that out yesterday , by just turning up but the 2 lovely ladies were able to make me 3 afternoon teas at such very short notice, so thank you both again, because they were truly amazing !! . The food is so fresh and very tasty with plenty of tea ,and we loved the heart shape Marmalade sandwich, In memory of our late Queen โค beautiful ! . I'm looking forward to now bringing my 2 girls and also for your...
