Me and my friends usually show up to the Royal Oak either to have a drink or meal. Today I went for a meal as I would any other day and it was absolutely amazing with brilliant and friendly staff. Considering the staff were busy (as there was a party) they catered to us well. Later on in the evening a group of people showed up and were sat on a table they use as a waiting table while they tried to find them seats. One of the people from the table walked up to the bar and asked if they could grab a menu to check what food was in the menu. The man at the bar politely said no as there were already 2 menus on their table and they'd be able to check anyway once they were seated. A few of the other people on the table started abusing the staff after he politely declined the person of the menu. After this the woman decided she wanted to have a go at the poor man at the bar because he said no. They were all being unpolite as me and my friends were at the bar listening. They all took the abuse very well, although one member of staff got annoyed (understandably). Long story short they all kicked off instead of just waiting 5 minutes for a table to be free. I have to commend the staff as they were low on workers and were trying their best to diffuse the situation. Please treat the...

My "go to" curry is the Naga Chicken. I had a phall heat one and it was the BEST curry I have ever had. The heat, the flavour and texture were simply perfect and for those of you who say you can't taste anything with very hot curries, you don't know what you are talking about. The Chef here ALWAYS strikes the right balance of heat and flavour.
I live in North Wales but work in Birmingham, why? Because I LOVE Curry so much and I know that I get the best in Brum (and I've worked all over the UK). The Royal Oak is a great place to take parties as the dining area is vast, yet "cosy".
The portion size is good, although the naan breads are small (by comparison to most) but they make up for that by being the best I've ever had. The Kingfisher and Cobra is ice cold but they don't sell Bangla (sadly) which is, in my opinion needed for the "heavier and hotter" curry...
Read moreCame tonight and service and food was terrible. Didn’t bring out starter out and when he said he would sort it came back 10 minutes later to say he had run out. Food then came out freezing cold I asked staff if they could take it back to warm up and he just walked off and ignored me. I then sat another 15minutes without no cutlery, so at this point food wasn’t eatable, it had to be put in trays which I then gave to the homeless. Iv asked for the bill and asked if any discount would be put on as the service and food was beyond terrible. He said this was not possible there was nothing he could do and it was due to being extremely busy. I’m sorry this is no excuse as he should have been turning people away if he couldn’t keep up with the demand being a busy restaurant anyway. Came every weekend prior, so a regular customer and safe to say we won’t be returning again, the problem could have been rectified and didn’t even give...
