Simmons Bakers — Restaurant in Welwyn Hatfield

Having just moved offices to Hatfield with our 34 members l staff, I thought I would try out Simones being virtually opposite my office. Being a regular at Wenzils in Borehamwood I expected this to be on par if not better being the local famous bakery. First impression was sadly disappointing.Despite a friendly service I ordered chicken baguette and small bottle of water. The baguette wasn’t that large and actually tasted like it was baked last week. Felt very dry and crumbly!! The cost of £8.65 for a small baguette with chicken mayo and a small water I think is expensive. Wenzils have far higher overheads being in better locations yet their prices are substantially lower for far better quality. May give it another go but first impression...

This bakery has a very serious hygiene problems. Twice I have witnessed dirty, unhygienic activity.

First, a lady serving me wore protected gloves when handling bread but then blew a kiss to a child with gloves on allowing SALIVA on the gloves - and bread.

This week another female worker was also disgusting. She tied up the counters but then without washing hands or using protective gloves picked up bread with her fat, grubby hands and put it in the slicer. I left without taking or buying that CONTAMINATED BREAD.

This place has clear hygiene issues. It must be closed down.

On top of that it's filled sandwiches, baps and cakes are OVER-PRICED.

The doughnuts are dry, expensive and lack enough jam.

Avoid this rip-off, dirty...

Great place for a ‘coffee stop’ with a treat. Yes it is expensive (see edit update )but the service is first class. Not for everyday but a great pick up opportunity for a morning snack or sandwich for lunch. The Simmons bakery is right behind the shop so on a local note this family business has evolved and adapted really well. Edit 4 years on most comments still valid but I'll drop a star off for value.Whichever cup size you get these days it always only seems to be only half full ( same for a few Simmonds branches I'm finding )..very poor coffee value now given todays prices .C'mon management step up it must be your top money spinner after all and your value for money reputation should...
