Had lunch here today for the first time......and last. The premises appears nice with its minimalistic decor, plastic flowers and seasonal cardboard cut out decorations.
The menu, which was presented as an A4 piece of paper and laminated in plastic is very limited. Also, the food seems over the top expensive for the basic fare that it is. Portion sizes are on the small side.
We ordered the tuna sandwiches and a pot of tea. The tea is, well, awful and the pot was only half filled and dirty. Milk pots placed inside the cup you are to use hardly seems hygienic.
The sandwiches were delivered in good time on a plate with a side salad and some ready salted crisps. Now, when I make a sandwich I use butter or margarine before adding a filling. This is not the case at Hugo's. The bread was dry and passed its best and appears to be akin to the cheapest supermarket bread available.
Sauces are only available on request.

Read moreBeen a couple of times. It's very clean and friendly. I like that they let dogs in. I've had a pot of tea which felt really weak. I think it was made with a one-cup bag. I also had a small pot of chips, which were very hot and crispy. Only salt for the chips (would have benefitted from vinegar and maybe a little sauce) On both occasions it was packed and I was dying for a drink so I just lived with it, which is my fault. I did think £6.50 is was a little steep for a drink and a handful of chips though, even if they were lovely. Colleagues said their food was nice too. Parking is a downside, took us ages to get parked. Also only one loo in the place so there is always a queue for it, so don't leave it till you're busting!!! I was on a work break so more interested in speed, but nice place to meet friends for a...
Read moreMet a friend for tea and cake, as I don't drink black tea I asked what herbal tea they had and was pleasantly surprised with the choice. My friend had a pot of black tea and I chose a pot of green tea. We both then had a piece of cake which was of an extremely generous size. I however thought the total for the two pieces if cake and the tea was a little bit pricier than other places, but the quality of the items was exceptional.
I will be returning in the future and may even try a meal as the food did look very tasty. And on the plus side they have plenty of seating outside and also a licence! So after a walk along the canal on a sunny day you could pop in for a nice...
