This is an American themed restaurant on an industrial estate in Rougham. The atmosphere is pleasant and casual; the music selection to my taste and the staff friendly if too interested in gathering for chit chat and flirtation.
The drinks menu is pleasingly long and reasonably priced; they had no margaritas listed but were happy to whip up a very decent version for £8.00.
Food is ok but really could and frankly, given that it is burgers, bbq, and chicken, should be better. We each had the “ICE burger”: 2 patties of 3oz each which oddly has cheese mixed into the beef. The patties are covered in a mayonnaise type sauce with bacon bits. There are other sauces as well which combine to deliver a sweet and sour taste which totally overpowers the burger itself.
Both burgers were cooked well done and my gripe is that dividing one 6oz patty into two 3oz patties diminishes the meat of the burger while exalting the many sauces. There is no corresponding benefit to the division. A six ounce patty can be cooked to order: well done (yuck!) , medium, rare or, for the brave, blue. Two patties gives you no such option and beef and bun here tend to run together as they do in the Big Mac. Like a Big Mac, the Ice burger is overcooked and relies on the strong sauces to deliver. It’s a real shame Ice has chosen not to focus on high quality ingredients and serve a basic but well executed burger to the customer’s specification.
The onion rings and chips were, again, ok but not great. The onion rings were mostly batter and carried the distinct taste of fish from being fried in fish and chip oil. Triple cooked chips (an extra £2.50) were just ok. For desert, we had a slice of chocolate cake (good) which seemed home-made and a chocolate sundae which was very nice. We were out the door for £86.00 including tip and several drinks. Ice is a pleasant place for a cheerful dinner. With a few tweak it could be really good. We shall see.
Returned on June 29 and am pleased to say the burger was hugely improved. Really good! !! Thick and properly cooked....
Read moreA hidden gem in rural Suffolk! Had my first visit to ICE today, and enjoyed a deliciously decadent late breakfast. It was a nice surprise to find out I could order pancakes until 3pm, which was just what I fancied, despite it being lunch time! ICE has a beautiful and spacious interior, with a contemporary industrial vibe incorporating lots of colour, light, and urban art. The servers were friendly and attentive, and I can only assume they must have some uber-talented chefs working behind the scenes, based on the quality of the food leaving the kitchen.
Their milkshakes are a speciality, made from fresh gelato on-site. I had a vanilla shake which was outstanding. Finished off with a cheeky cocktail, which was also of an excellent standard (not your run-of-the-mill spirits thrown into a glass with a mixer) - you could genuinely tell it had been made with care, using carefully selected ingredients. Their menu is extensive, leaving lots left to explore for a second visit. They also have a beautiful garden, which I look forward to spending some time in once the weather returns.
I enjoyed the eclectic music playlist too, which was full of pleasant surprises (it was particularly nice to hear The Doors chime in as I was half way through a delicious bite of pancake!)

Read moreFirst of all, I want to say a huge thank you to ICE for offering such a great range of GF food and being so hot on allergy awareness; we LOVED how almost all your food had gluten free options and that the first question you asked was to do with allergies.
We had the burger and katsu chicken burger, both were very good. The triple cooked chips were a bit soggy so we were a little let down by those. The big portions of chips were awesome though. Had the normal fries on another occasion and they were very nice
The black cherry daiquiri was DELICIOUS and the passionate fruit martini was pretty good. Espresso martini and zombie both delicious. Milkshake delicious.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was very fun, we liked that it was quite family friendly with pencils for kids and a nice outdoor area. We will definitely be back to try your other food and to take advantage of the 2 for £12 cocktail deal again!
Edited to add we had the most amazing breakfast here. Pancake stack and GF full English both to die for. Coffee really nice. Homemade hash brown was amazing and the American style pancakes were too. We loved that your Suffolk sausages are GF. One of the best breakfasts we have had ever.
Definitely a hidden gem in Rougham/greater...
