How far it's fallen from since it was the Scandinavian House. My wife and I went for a light lunch; in her case, a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. To be fair, we didn't have to wait long for service, as we had timed it just right. Half way through the bagel my wife discovered a human hair attached to the smoked salmon (so attached that the salmon could be dangled from it). The waitress was apologetic & offered some sort of recompense, suggesting cake. And hey, a hair can drop into the food unnoticed, I guess? We had finished this course and a small queue was waiting to be served at the counter. But friends of the waitress had seated themselves at the next table, (without ordering anything), but apparently with the express purpose of discussing some sort of written missive on a mobile 'phone. It was quite a long piece of text and taking some time to read & discuss...... while the queue of waiting customers got longer. A member of the kitchen staff called to the waitress that what she was doing was unprofessional. While the waitress acknowledged this, she still kept on reading/discussing! Eventually a male member of staff came over and asked her to stop what she was doing and serve. Which she did and her friends left. Will we be going back any time soon? What do...
Read moreWe discovered No. 5 Angel Hill whilst on a mini break to Bury St Edmunds and selected 5 independent coffee shops to try whilst we were there. We ended up visiting No. 5 twice within 24 hours because it was so great. Four things stand out for me about this coffee shop. First thing is the quirky decor, a mixture of aviation furniture, mirrors and light colours all around. The second is the customer service, it’s exceptional and this was because we were served by Ryan and the owner (we think - tall guy with beard) who were both so friendly and very efficient. Third thing to stand out for us was the bacon pretzel bun bap. This was the best bacon sarnie I’ve ‘ever’ had. Last thing which made us go back again was the coffee of course, a winner with us both. They use beans from Freshpac roasters based in Ipswich. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend you put this place on your ‘to-do’ list if you are visiting...
Read moreWe drove up from Essex yesterday, like we do every year for a girlie pre-Christmas day out… and we stopped here as our first port of call for our lunch. And it now definitely did not disappoint! After just a short wait (very well worth it) we were seated to our table near the window looking out to the Abbey. While we had been waiting a lovely, lovely waitress offered us menus to browse, and she made my day when she told me the soup of the day was potato and leek (I was very excited lol) My daughter and bestfriend both had the salmon and cream cheese bagel (both saying was the best they’ve ever had) and my soup was sublime 👌🏻 And our hot chocolates were also super delicious! 10/10 for service, atmosphere, food, drink… everything! You all gave us the absolute PERFECT start to our day out with full/warm tummies and happy hearts. So thank you so much. Christmas Wishes sent to you all, from Julie,...
