I visited this pub/restaurant on a busy Saturday evening. The atmosphere was good and we were greeted warmly by the staff. There were a good selection of dishes, not just the standard food we tend to see nowadays in restaurants. My starter, which consisted of two small oxtail cakes and a sauce was exceptional. They also make their own beer which I tried and enjoyed and, in my opinion, takes the place to the next level. Service provided by Jonny was also of note. He told he was new to the restaurant but acted like a seasoned professional regularly checking we were satisfied and engaging well in conversation with a good sense of humour despite being very busy. A good enjoyable evening.

Everything about this pub was spot on at my first visit. I booked the table at the last moment online. Super quick and easy. When we arrived (a table of four) we were quickly seated and our drinks were ordered. After that we never felt rushed through our appetisers, the English asparagus and salt & pepper squid, or through our dinner. We all ordered the roast sirloin of beef. The roast dinner was one of the best I have had, EVER! We will definitely be returning as I have already booked our table.

Beautiful interior in this pub, and they make delicious grilled sandwiches! I highly recommend the Reuben sandwich (whole meal is only £11) — it’s super tasty and filling. The only thing I’d say is that you’re better off going for an early lunch (before 14:00) so you not only get a table but also get your orders taken quickly and food get served on time. If you wait too late, the crowd builds up and it’ll take a long time for your order to be processed.

Staying in Bury St. Edmunds whilst on a course. Visited The One Bull 2 nights running due to it being outstanding the first night. 2 staff members on - Sam and Becky. Dining out alone as a female in a new place can sometimes be intimidating to some. Sam and Becky made me feel welcome and relaxed from walking through the door. Greeted me as soon as eye contact was made with a smile and a friendly demeanour. The first night I was thankful for them finding me a quiet spot to work from as I had some paperwork to catch up with. It was then no problem for me to move to a ‘proper’ table to eat. Being a chef myself I can be a little picky when it comes to eating out - I like and expect good standards. With a daily changing specials menu alongside a small but perfectly considered main menu I needn’t have worried. First night I had garlic butter focaccia bread, bacon chop and sticky toffee pudding from the main menu. Tonight I’ve had duck from the specials menu followed by eton mess. All delivered in generous portions, perfectly presented by very well trained and attentive staff. Compliments to the chef and kitchen team - the food is full of flavour and perfectly cooked. Good to meet Dave the owner at the bar tonight also to express my thanks and high praise for Sam and Becky. Did I mention they also brew their own beers and have an extensive but well chosen wine list? All available to buy from their shop next door! I will definitely be returning here if I need to come to Bury St.Edmunds for any other reason. If I could give you 10 stars I would! A huge well done to The...

My husband and I came here for an Easter Sunday roast. The beef was advertised to come out as pink, which is great as that is how I love beef, yet it came out blue. Being typical brits we didn’t have the gumption when asked how the meal was to say it was too blue. So after deciding that we have paid a good amount of money to NOT eat the food we reluctantly, and very pleasantly, said how it was too blue but not to worry. The person serving was very young which made us feel even worse but we explained it and that it wasn’t his fault at all but we wanted to give feedback to the chef. The manager of the restaurant came over and was quite passive aggressive with us, saying how it we clearly enjoyed our meal (despite one plate being sent back half eaten), should have said something as they came to check on us twice (I corrected her as only she checked on us, not this other person) and I also apologised about making her colleague uncomfortable as it was his second shift but that we didn’t want anything in return but decided at the end to say something so they can pass on the feedback. It was SO uncomfortable and I have never experienced such bad customer service before. Having a manger come up and be so confrontational saying it was our fault for not saying something sooner was just unprofessional. Beyond angry at this point. We used to love coming in here for a drink, heard good reviews on the food and it was just awful. We won’t be coming in here ever again simply for how they handled our feedback. There’s much better places for a Sunday...

We had high hopes after seeing the reviews and the fantastic pre-arrival information system that we were able to utilise and we were not disappointed. We have been lucky enough to stay in some amazing hotels around the world, but for room ambience, facilities and personal service this is up there with the best we have had. The room was immaculate and nothing was too much trouble if we wanted anything changed – we stayed in the Concorde Suite which has a two-person spa bath in the room and as a relaxing experience, it is unsurpassed in any hotel I have stayed in the UK. We also ate in their restaurant in the evening and the food there was excellent and well-priced. The AA have recently rated the breakfast as 5 Star and I would concur with this – it is not often I get a Bucks Fizz or Bloody Mary included in the breakfast!! Overall we had a fantastic time and I am sure this will become a regular place we stay when we...
