We were looking for a spot of lunch/ early dinner while visiting Bury st Edmunds on a Saturday and the Mediterranean cuisine was our first fancy. The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived which was perfect because we didn't book our table in advance. The seating and decor where perfectly adequate for a family run restaurant, facilities were very clean and we were quite comfortable. We were swiftly seen to our table by a very conscientious waiter who was both courteous and polite. We were offered the £14.99 lunch option which allows one to pick any mains from the menu for the above price, we had a rather small starter of hummus before the mains arrived. The selection of kofte and mixed grill with salad and cracked wheat were delicious, perfectly seasoned and freshly made, well worth recommending, followed by delicious coffee and a dessert of baklava (which was again a bit on a small side of 3 tiny pieces for the price of almost £9). We had couple of beers and a soft drink and were offered a complementary amaretto by a lovely waitress after we paid up our bill. In summary it was a very pleasant lunch/dinner and we are looking forward to our second visit...

We stumbled upon Francela while out celebrating my 60th birthday, and what a fantastic find it was! The special offer of 30% off a starter and main course caught our attention, and we were warmly greeted upon arrival.

The menu offered a lovely variety of starters and mains, and the food we enjoyed was absolutely delicious, with generous portion sizes for the price. The only downside was the drinks were a bit pricey, with a 500ml beer costing £7.95.

The service was outstanding; they even noticed it was my birthday and surprised me with a complimentary ice cream and candle. We couldn't finish all our meals, so they kindly provided us with a doggy bag to take home. To top it off, we were treated to complimentary liqueurs with the bill and given a lovely bottle of wine to take away!

Having just come out of 'lockdown' my sister and I wanted our first night out to be chilled and relaxing. And I have to say Francela was just the perfect place to go. Tables had obviously been reduced but because it's not a very big restaurant it didn't lose any ambience because of it. The Turkish sausage as a starter was sublime, as were the cold meze starters green beans salad and eggplant salad both in a delicious tomato sauce. For mains you couldn't make a better choice than their lamb chops, simple, chargrilled and delicious as was the chicken in a mushroom and cream sauce, all the better because I'm sure the chicken was chargrilled before being joined with the sauce. And what a fantastic welcome too. I'm afraid I'm going to have to knock off one star, as the prawns in garlic was the one disappointment of the meal, being small overcooked and very...

Tried their best valued two courses early evening menu (£17.99) Starter: Tzatziki - very refreshing cucumber yoghurt dip, served with crusty and soft bread and salad Main: Chicken guvec - generous portion of tender chicken fillets with onions, mushrooms and peppers in spiced tomato sauce base, very impressed by the sizzling hot earthware pot, served with fluffy and flavoursome bulgur and fresh salad Very high quality food, excellent service and very good value compared to other Mediterranean restaurants. Highly recommended if you’re around in Bury St Edmunds!

Stopped in for a family lunch. Very friendly attentive staff and the food was delicious and well presented. Calamari was perfectly cooked, and it would have been good to have more than three rings in the portion as we were sharing the starters. The grilled meats were juicy and tender and full of flavour. We really liked the Guvec on the lunch menu. The meals are good but not worth the price tag. The two course menu is better value for money but has restricted options. Can't fault the service though, we felt well looked after!
