Admittedly I had never heard of Procopio’s before the Velvet* Food & Drink awards, and it makes sense somehow because they only opened a month before the first lockdown (are we still allowed to mention that word or that time?) 🫠
Nestled in Langton Place, just off Hatter Street in Bury St. Edmunds, is brother and sister owned, and family run Procopio’s Pantry. An Italian name I woefully mispronounced over the phone when attempting to book myself in for afternoon tea, despite my own Italian heritage.
It's worth mentioning that Procopio’s famed Alice in Wonderland afternoon teas need to be booked 48 hours in advance because most, if not all of their menu items are made fresh, in-house, including the baked beans, chutneys, pickles and sauces. I also noted all of their teas were quality loose leaf and I instantly recognised the well known local roaster who supplied their coffee. The fresh juices, drinks, produce, and meats are all locally and independently sourced as well.
The menu refreshingly deviates from the trends. Not a smashed avocado on toast in sight! I ordered the baked eggs with smoked salmon, accompanied with freshly baked bread for spooning up every last drop of homemade sauce. There was absolutely no room after breakfast for any of the delicious cakes that were on display, but I could not resist taking home one of their star shaped cheese scones - which I enjoyed later in the evening just as I was instructed to do by Peter and Noosha’s Dad, "warmed up in the toaster and slathered in butter".
It really is a family affair, and as such, they REALLY do care. When they check in with you at your table, they really want to know. I reported back that everything was perfect. Everything from the friendly staff, to what was being served, felt NOURISHING.
Dogs were not only welcomed, but are much loved, and invited to dine alongside the families that frequent. I was without the fluff this visit and sat at my table alone, but among regulars, and much enjoyed the lovely familiar conversations that took place between the customers and staff.
While I was sat enjoying my breakfast, the staff were quietly singing under their breaths, and dancing ever so discreetly to the music that was playing.
I will definitely book ahead next time and return for the...

Sorry for the late review.
Once I walked one at Procopio’s Pantry, I was charmed by the retro/traditional decor. I also loved the Halloween theme afternoon tea, lots of Halloween props and creepy table decorations. It was clear how much effort the staff made to make the Halloween afternoon tea perfect.
We were welcomed by staff who were super attentive and made us feel so welcome! The menu was shown to us and Halloween menu was clearly explained. I also appreciated that owner's accommodated our dietary requirements of being vegetarian.
I have to say all the Halloween themed food was amazing and tasty. First up was the Witches Brew, which I couldn't get enough of. The pumpkin soup was a great way to start the afternoon tea. There was a great selection of scones, my personal favourite was the chilli cheese scones. I highly recommend these and you don't want to miss out on these. I also really enjoyed the home made vegetarian sausage rolls. They tasted fresh and pastry was perfect. All the sweet treats also delicious, the biscoff tombstones were my favourite though.
There was so much available for the Halloween afternoon, which I haven't mentioned. I have to say every item food and fruity tea didn't disappoint.
I can't wait to visit again for afternoon tea or a themed afternoon tea!
Massive thanks and shout out to the...
Read moreProcopio's Pantry is a charming cafe in Bury St. Edmunds that serves up some of the most delicious afternoon tea I have ever had.
Everything is fresh and flavorful, the scones are light and fluffy, and the cakes are simply divine. But the real star of the show is the chilli cheese scones. They are perfectly baked, with a crispy crust and a soft and cheesy interior. The chilli kick is just right, adding a bit of heat without being overwhelming.
The coffee at Procopio's Pantry is also top-notch. I had a flat white, which was rich and creamy with a perfect espresso flavor.
The service at Procopio's Pantry is also excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they go out of their way to make sure that you have a wonderful dining experience.
Overall, I highly recommend Procopio's Pantry to anyone looking for a delicious and relaxing afternoon...
