Sadly wasn't a great experience for us, especially disappointed as we chose it for our second date since our little one was born 18 months ago!
We booked a table for 4:30 on Saturday (so we could get back for little ones bed time). I'd say the restaurant was 20% full and the waiting staff were working out where to put us when we got there. They then seated us on this tiny table in what was seemingly a walkway by the bar (no other tables there). We asked if we could move, given there were so many empty tables and the waitress laughed saying she'd thought we'd ask to move. I asked whether everyone asks to move and she said yes and explained they tried the table in a slightly different position in the walkway but doesn't really work.
Moved to the other end of the restaurant, next to the toilets, the busy kitchen and a very loud male group obviously having a great time (wonderful but not great to be next to on a peaceful date). We were a bit bemused and confused whey then seemed to move us to the second worse table, despite still being only 20% full. We ordered anyway as only had limited time. We were about to ask to move again as the table next to us was so loud (only loud table in the whole place) and our food arrived.
Was too much effort to move by that point. But being next to a busy toilet, a really loud table and a busy kitchen was not the meal out we hoped for
The food was nice but tainted by the atmosphere.
When paying the bill we weren't asked how anything was, despite saying we weren't going to be paying service charge. We did ask why they moved us from the walkway to another walkway, despite the restaurant still only being 20% full at this point (5:15) and got told it was because they had to push most of the other tables together for big parties. We feel this was a lame excuse, considering the table we were at was part of a long bench set up and there were so many 2 and 4 seat empty tables as we left the restaurant (I'd guess at least 16, possibly more like 20!)
Went somewhere else for dessert and got much better service and atmosphere!
Sad as we had heard this chain mentioned so much on podcasts we listened to and probably would have returned if the atmosphere and seating wasn't so poorly...
Read moreWe prebooked weeks in advance as getting a table for 2 on a Saturday evening is difficult. Having visited Mowgli in Liverpool on Water Street and loved it, expectations were high. Decor wise, the restaurant was the same, looking great. Light music in the background. Our table was ready on arrival. We picked himalayan cheese toast and the yoghurt chat bombs. The chat bombs were excellent.. fresh flavours and utterly delicious. The cheese toast.. the topping was lacking, and the lime pickle was so salty and overpowered the toast. I wouldn't order it again. Intermediary course, we had Angry Bird since we loved this on our previous visit to Mowgli.. whilst the Mustard slaw was top notch.. the Tandoor roasted chicken was disappointing. It tasted deep fried.. and was bland. The meat was moist, but there was no taste of the marinade. It looked beige... and didn't have the vibrant colour we experienced previously. See the photo comparison.. We each had mother butter chicken, which was nice, and shared a portion of the house chicken curry.. which was good, especially when pimped up with the chillis in oil. Roti breads were a big mistake ... sadly, they were no different than those you get from the packet.. they were rock hard on the edges and simply smeered with a bit of ghee.. Certainly wouldn't order those again .. should have had the puri. The coconut ice cream cone was a hit, as was the chocolate brownie. Service at our table (which was just opposite the bar) was great. Ordering in stages meant we got food as we wanted it..and anything we ordered was on the table in minutes... The tables for 2 are small.. so you don't want to order everything up front.. because there's not enough room. The women's toilets weren't great.. there were pieces of toilet roll all over the floor, and none in the toilet roll holders.. I did report this. We enjoyed it but having loved the experience in Liverpool..we found the food quality not quite up to the same standard in Bury.. so won't be rushing back. £97 with a bottle of wine and including tip, 10% added to the bill...
Read moreHad lunch there with the fiancé this afternoon. We were excited to try it after spotting it recently while in town. Can't say I'm impressed. We were put by the door. So cold everytime someone came in. Waited 10 mins for our drinks to be taken. It was explained that the portions were small. So was best to order more. Seemed a high price for small dishes. Gutted there was only one lamb dish but claims to be Indian style food. I'm sensitive to spice so went for the house chicken which claimed to be tame (it was still pretty spicy). If I'm honest what we both had seemed more oriental Asian. Mine was a glorified Thai green curry. The other half's chicken was sickly sweet. I only ate half because of the spice. No one asked us about allergies, no one asked if our food was ok. Waited for the bill and it was explained we could contribute to charity and there was a 10% service charge. Both optional. We were both a tad confused, but didn't want to seem rude and seemed to pay both. Which boosted our bill from £42 to £48. Drinks were expensive. I just thinks its a little expensive for what you get. This is suffolk, not london. Street food is traditionally quick, filling and relatively cheap. Taste wasn't terrible, just felt a bit mislead. Won't go back. Really wasn't worth £50 for 2 thighs, a handful each of rice, potatoes and chicken. So dissapointed. The restaurant was very pretty. The swing seats seemed cute, no one wanted to sit in them though. Also, staff were average. Not much personality. Just there for a wage. Such a shame. We were so excited to try something a little different. Didn't particularly like that dogs could come in. Wasn't aware it was a dog friendly place. Also noticed that accessibility was poor. Sometimes I have to use a wheelchair. Not today as we parked near the restaurant. Again...
