Tollgate — Restaurant in West Suffolk

Unwelcoming rude scary staff!!!We come to this pub regularly but every time the manager Josie is so rude! Unwelcoming and extremely bossy! We waited for an hour and half to be served table service in the garden. We were constantly ignored but when one of us stood up to ask we were barked at to sit back down! The manager was chatting and laughing which is fine but it seemed like the table was her friends and they had been bought out 3 lots of drinks in the time we finally got served! So I think the staff serve friends first and we always get terrible service. Until Ryan came and sorted us out....we was a party of 6 and the app was not working to order...Josie said if you can't order then leave. She would rather 6 customers leave unhappy then give table service....Ryan came and sorted us. We had one drink and left...she is unwelcoming rude blunt and has no customer service skills and does not know how to keep your customers happy! Awful service.....on the plus side it has a big garden for the kids to play and can see the lambs and sheep.kids love it....shame about the awful rude shouty manager, when we said we will leave, she said bye! How can a manager be so unkind and rude? Pubs should be warm happy friendy and welcoming...every time we have came in she has been rude! Another time when I asked if we could order food, she said bluntly no the kitchen is closed, I said cheekily is there any food at all in the kitchen we could order, we not fussy. She said yeah I can bring you the scraps out of the bin....all of us are so disappointed with this staff member....no apology no manners horrible experience....sorry to all the sweet staff...there are some lovely ones but Josie ruins it...

We visited the Tollgate for our work Christmas lunch very recently. It was admittedly very busy and the staff were friendly and did their best but unfortunately the food was not very good at all. Whilst we expected with a large group that the food would come out at different times it was not envisaged that the stuffing balls for the Christmas Dinner would come out after we all finished eating and one of the group didn't get a yorkshire pudding as they had run out. One work colleague couldn't eat his dinner at all . His pie looked and tasted very poor. My salmon dish was not very hot and had no flavour. Some of the group had cheese and biscuits for desert and there was only a soft cheese which was either brie or Camenbere and the cheddar came out looking like the sweeping off the cheesemongers counter. To be completely honest none of us would make a return visit for a Christmas lunch but maybe during a quieter period. I very rarely leave a bad review and try to see the positive in any place I visit but I would be hard pressed to point out anything to recommend to...

So disappointed. I booked a table for 9 people. When we arrived we were told by a member of staff they were no longer serving food despite us having booked. They had been given my telephone number at the time of booking and no one had called to make us aware of this. We were then told as we had booked they would serve us food. We were shown to our table. Nobody explained how we ordered eg whether we ordered at the bar or if someone comes to take the order at the table. We chose what we wanted from the menus left on our table, went to the bar to order to be told that they were only serving roast dinners. We had chosen this pub because of their extensive menu which was suitable for the children we had taken. No one had previously told us this change to their menu. We decided to leave. The service was appalling. We didn’t get to try their food so can’t comment on that but certainly the service was terrible and left a large family...
