5 stars all round for one reason, seriously, as it had everything I wanted. Speciel occasion experience: Addresed it as I pictured it. Making it special, great table, great welcome and service was fantastic. The table was decorated, and the timings of giving us space before approaching us were spot on.
Ordered a bottle of French white wine, Petfect. Exactly as described on the menu. Easy drinking, light, and refreshing with subtle notes that complemented the dishes that were to follow.
Vegetarian Spring Rolls/ Ducks rolls: Both were petfection in taste and presentation. Yes, it was ONLY spring rolls, but just as you expect them to be. Light crispy, just enough filling and wanting more when finished.
Tofu green curry/ Massoman curry with Jasmin rice. Curries are signature dishes at Thai restaurants, but this was on another level. It is so easy to eat, not overpowering, not too spicy or too rich, just petfect just like the Goldie lox and the 3 bears fairy-tale story.
As a cheeky little side order, we ordered another starter dish with the main - Corn fitters. Now that the flow of good food and service was in full motion, how could it not be good? Well, it was great. Need i say more?
So overall, We came to this lovely and ex-capital of England, City of Winchester, to celebrate a milestone occasion. Planned to enjoy a great day with a great meal. After reading many reviews and researching different cuisines and different restaurants, We came here to Bangkok Bistro, and we are so glad we did. It is even better than those reviews given.
A special mention to the owner/manager and the waiting staff. They were perfect, and the experience they provided was so classy. It's definitely one of the best Thai restaurants we have been to. Also, it can do rings around many London restaurants trying to do the same thing. Thank you once again. What a little gem. Bistro at its best. Big thank you.
Funniest moment when rhe waiting staff asked if we wanted to remove the service charge. If any place deserved the service charge and more was...
Read moreMaybe Friday night is not a great time to visit? We pre- booked a table - in front bow window - but on a freezing January night there was nothing but a flimsy screen to keep out the chill. We asked for a heater - to be fair it came. We booked for 7pm and promised faithfully that we would be out by 8.30. In the event, we waited, and waited until a flood of take away orders (including a chap with a very small screaming baby) took the staff away from (five) restaurant diners! A couple came in after us .. I'm counting them in the five ... but seemed to know the magic password as they had food on the table before we had even been offered the wine list! The problem seems to be that the takeaway counter is where the early diners are asked to sit. They were served and we had to wait. Getting to the food: we were a party of three, so why when you say you are sharing three dishes as a starter, are three plates of four portions brought out? This is such an easy thing to rectify. Surely??? I ordered the prawn pad thai as a direct comparison to the Thai in Ropley's equivalent dish and I'm sorry : four mean prawns in an indifferent tamarind sauce ... Ropley won hands down. We queried all of the above when we were given the bill - to be told that - "Very sorry Lady. Miff at Kyoto Kitchen tonight." Not enough staff and not enough...
Read moreUpon arrival, we were greeted by some very friendly staff, who throughout the meal were brilliant. We were really impressed about how many staff they were on the floor, the service worked really well.
We decided to have the Bangkok banquet, which was absolutely delicious. The variety of tastes and textures were brilliant, and the elements of the meal that contained fish were really good.
The soup was absolutely brilliant, and the level of spice was spot-on. Probably the most spicy aspect of the meal.
The highlight of the meal for us was the Seabass and the trout both of which were beautifully cooked and were delicious. When the first course came out, they had accidentally substituted the squid for chicken, but when pointed out they very kindly brought out the squid as an after dish. Very pleased we mentioned this as the squid was brilliant.
Every dish had a unique flavour which I would highly recommend. If you’re in Winchester, try out...
