Royal Oak — Restaurant in Wirral

We come here a lot as its very local to us usually our visits have been pleasant as there's a play area for the children great prices and good food. But I must say over the last few visits I have found the staff unhelpful and leave you standing when they can clearly see you and they just walk off like your not even there but yesterday topped it we came for my daughters birthday I handed the cake to the bar staff and asked if they could bring it out lady who I spoke to was lovely and said of course do you want us to sing happy birthday so I said yes please and she took my daughters name and she put it in the fridge. We had our food and then I went up and asked for the cake about half 6 I was told they would bring it out soon so I went back to the table half hour passed and the younger children where starting to get tired my friend went and asked again for the cake to be brought out again We was told it would be out soon in mean time we seen them bringing other cakes out with the candles lit. The children started getting bored as we where trying to keep them at the table ready then when my daughter went to the bar to ask for some water they said are you Leah so it was obvious what was going on. Then my son ended up giving the surprise away cos of how long we where sat waiting after 2 hours my friend and her children had to go as her buses are every hour and it was already half 8. In mean time they even brought a staff member a cake out with candles lit and sang happy birthday my son who has additional needs was really starting to get fed up so I asked for 3rd time they brought it out with the candles on but not lit and they lit it at the table then walked off they didn't sing happy birthday as promised we where all very disappointed even when we did try to approach staff they just walked past us like we weren't there. Am not sure we will be visiting again as like I said I feel like it's gone down hill lately due to the staffs attitude towards...

Visited here tonight for a friends birthday. He choose this location due to many kids being in our party and there being a play area.

However this honestly needs either severe health and safety checks or ripping down and re doing. The netting is all ripped and being held together with zip ties. Holes on the seams big enough to make you wonder about structural integrity. The children went on a “treasure hunt” and came back with multiple things to do with cleanliness which can be forgiven on busy days but then they were running around with a knife they found inbetween the cushions.

Not to mention although the frame looks like it’s covered with foam and waterproof lining, however on a specifically child head height beam joist, there was no foam padding just waterproof lining, resulting in my son really hurting himself and having a large bump to the head on a metal joist.

The staff where lovely especially with such a large party with regards to ordering and bring food and clearing plates however no one even looked our way when we walked out of the play area with our screaming 3 year old with a dark egg on his head

Food was as can be expected from the chain and delivered hot. Children’s plates were a little too hot but they are all old enough to understand to let them cool down so wasn’t an issue.

The restaurant itself looks a bit worn and again could do with a little spruce or steam on the carpets and walls

I know there’s only soo much you can do but I personally won’t be revisiting this venue by choice. Hope it’s not too harsh of a review but do feel like these points...

Well where do I start. Checked in on a 1 night stay. 1st impressions was 1 of a dated interior at reception with good reception staff. Got to my room and was instantly treated with a damp musky smell which was very unpleasant. Then had a look about the room to find damp in the corner of the main room, very dated dirty mouldy bathroom,tiles and grout. Electrical equipment well overdue for pat testing and didnt even work although is still wired to working switch outside bathroom. Human hair on and around the wc. Tv remote that won't turn off unless you turn off at the plug. Went into the pub for an evening meal. Overall the food recieved was ok. However what was on the menu wasn't what we received. My wife's meal should of come with chips and onion rings but came with a limp side salad and dry jacket potato. The steak that should of been 8oz (uncooked) was nowhere near it and the chicken was very watery and tasteless. The waiting staff quite unprofessional. Left tables with dirty dishes for at least 30 mins after customers had left (maybe longer). When the labels were cleared and wiped the table still had food on it, menu on the floor and chairs still all over the place and not pushed in. The bar staff that brought our drinks just dumped the drinks on the table and ran without saying a word. The whole property needs better cleaning staff with mass cobwebs above windows.
