WOW what a massive walk! This is a lovely park & nature reserve but it is lacking in signposts. This was our first visit and as we headed into it from the main entrance car park, and a good 10 minutes in, we were asked on 2 seperate occasions where the car park was! That didn't bode well but as we made our way around it made sense.... Lack of signposts! The park is in a 'dog leg' shape. At the bottom you find yourself 'by pure luck' coming back on yourself. It is so easy to take the wrong path because, quite simply, THERE ARE THAT MANY OF THEM!! 😂😂😂. I wouldn't recommend going here just before dark because you won't find you're way out!. Lots of people stood around pointing in different directions and looking confused isn't reassuring at all 😂😂.Apart from all that this is a lovely, vast nature reserve. Lovely sounds and sunshine is a fantastic mix in a place like this. It is a massive park. We WILL go again... But will buy a...
Read moreAlthough the name is Brotherton Park and Dibbinsdale Local Nature Reserve this is not a formal park. It is an area managed for its wildlife and plants. I had a pleasant walk through a variety of habitats, and discovered two tunnels under the local railway – one for bats and one for visitors! I saw a heron, heard owls calling, and noticed a large nest box for birds of prey. There were also ducks, moorhens and small mammals to look out for. The paths are well cared for and there are plenty of information and map points. On my way back to the car park I passed a pond with wheelchair as well as normal access for anglers. There was also a huge picnic table with special wheelchair places. I also picked up one of the trail guides from the Visitor Centre by the Rangers Office in preparation for my next visit when I intend to look at some of the heritage and...
Read moreI often bring the lads walking through here. It's a very nice place to walk through. The downside is that you never know what's going on in the park, there's always a surprise. Numerous times we've walked down the steps from Vanderbyl Ave only to find it's completely flooded with Dibbensdale Brook overflowing at the bottom of the steps. This also then blocks the path under the railway bridge so you can't get to Bromborough Woods. When we came after strong winds a couple of years ago all the paths were blocked with massive fallen trees that took some time to clear. But I suppose life would be very boring without Mother Nature having her way every...
