I went with my mum for Christmas dinner we had a 3 course dinner starters mushroom and cauliflower soup with fresh bread and mains a full roast dinner with everything and pudding we had christmas pudding with brandy sauce it was all very tasty. On arrival we were offered a prosecco wine which was served at our table we'd paid in advance so everything we ordered beforehand was served to us at our table. The only thing was i asked for tea for two which we never received and the table was wobbly uneven legs so we had to ask for something to stabilize the table and because we were offered a prosecco drink on arrival i thought it was complimentary drink so when we finished everything i mentioned we'd paid in advance but she brought over a bill for the prosecco we were given on arrival we didn't complain i said to mum i didn't realize we were offered a drink on arrival that we would later be charged for it we even gave a tip to our waitress but didn't expect a bill for the free prosecco so not only was the table wobbly we never got our tea for two which we paid for including a starter a main and pudding with drinks we were charged extra on top for the wine but overall it was nice celebrating our Christmas day together nice friendly staff good service clean so my only advice to anyone is check before they offer you a glass of prosecco as you enter before you sit down that it's not free or courteous that you will be charged later on.

You ***MUST*** visit if only to try their desserts. They are a meal in themselves. The banoffee pie is probably the best! Every seating place has a wine glass already there which the waiter/waitress will take away if you're not drinking alcohol. But it does mean that there's a lot of glass on empty tables waiting to be knocked over which might concern people with young children who like to wander around. Saying that you always feel welcome and the service is very good. The food is very good quality but the prices are more expensive than other Greene King pubs. The main seating area has no TVs which I rather like. No use for sports fans though. The soft drinks selection does let itself down. No brands like J2O or Britvic etc. The have their own lemonade some of which are served in jam jar like glasses. I'd prefer just normal ones. Well worth a visit as an occasional treat or if you prefer the quiet atmosphere and excellent food but don't mind paying a bit extra.

We booked a table by phone , however on arrival told not on list. Not a problem tables were available. Albeit it was early doors. Drinks first at the bar, then to the restaurant. Only 1 member of staff at bar so a little bit of a wait. Once seated at the table in the dining area. Our orders were taken. Photos attached of the meals above. I personally had the Mixed Grill. Overall verdict. Staff very friendly and helpful. Service a little bit slow , especially as not too busy. Food / meals excellent , nicely presented , cooked to perfection and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. Price was very reasonable indeed. We were advised to buy a bottle of wine as opposed to glasses, good advice. No problems recommending here , but be prepared for a wait , if our experience was the norm. Value for money very good Will definitely return .

Very disappointed with the manager and the business owners capability to support staff in times of need.

I'm going to start off by saying we understand accidents happen. However, what can improve a distressed customers experience is the way in which the environment around them is handled.

We booked a table of 6 for the opening weekend at this new and 'improved' restaurant only to leave before we even got to place an order. The waitress managed to completely drench 2 people on our table with coke and popcorn which didn't go down well with white jeans. It is fair to mention, we believe the waitress did her best to clean it up given she clearly didn't have the correct training for carrying multiple drinks on a tray. She dealt with the situation really well so if any positives can come out of this experience it is the maturity and emotional intelligence this young lady showed during our visit.

Now onto the disappointing elements of my review; Firstly, when you get your face put into the newspaper showing that you are the owner of this updated place, you should atleast have the decency to come over to the table and apologise for your staff ruining somebody's outfit and making them have to (uncomfortably) scurry off to the bathroom to try and dry off their soaking wet pants. Instead, we found ourselves having to use the cloths provided to wipe the table and floor whilst your waitresses were flapping about trying to ensure the drinks were cleaned up but not once did you even acknowledge the mess that was unfolding just inches from where you were lingering. Secondly, to not even offer to move us to a new and clean table when atleast 2 of the chairs were now sticky and damp shows that nobody working in this restaurant had an ounce of intellect. Thirdly, for us as customers to see 'senior' managers smiling and almost sniggering from a distance was actually disgusting and I strongly believe our dining outcome could have been very different had the attitude of those around us been more comforting and respectful.

We were approached by what we believe was the supervisor to say that we would get this round of drinks on the house- is that some kind of pathetic joke?!?! Considering our orders hadn't even been taken, 2 of our party members were confined to the 2 cubicle bathroom trying to dry off their VERY stained clothes and we were stuck on a sticky table still with no sort of apology from the owner. I believe a free round of drinks was the bare minimum you should have been offering.

This place looked nice but the maturity level and set up is very basic. This restaurant has a long way to develop and I believe having a 'face' to the business is ungenuine and useless if there's no plan to support both the customer and the staff when something like this goes down. This is nothing but a 'fluffed up' pub lunch with wobbly tables and untrained staff. Personally, I think you'd be better off booking a table at the shippons which is just round the corner!

Funny enough, the nail in the coffin for us was returning home to find an email saying they couldn't fit our table booking in?!? We were seated so I have no idea why we were sent this kind of email and not an email with an apology for the poor service we received. No follow up on the insincere offer to pay for dry cleaning which was mentioned (again, the staff didn't even know the extent of the damage until we got up to leave) on our way out the door. I emphasise 'insincere' because not once did the staff stop to collect our names or numbers and they failed to recommend a course of action for the reimbursement when we do have to visit the dry cleaners.

So yeah, if you want to have drinks spilt on you, staff (lacking maturity) laughing and no offer to entice you to return (I.e a voucher/follow up call) then give this pub lunch a chance. If, like us, you don't want to risk the poor service - travel 9 minutes down the road to the Shippons and try their VERY tasty 3 course meal with a side of smiles, personality...

Long time customer here, my family and i have been coming here since it was the 12th man. We come most weeks for a mid-week dinner to break things up from cooking at home. To afford this I'll often order from the lunch menu before it finishes at 5pm. Occasionally we'll order off the main menu but the food here is expensive (£15 for fish and chips is NOT cheap). A few weeks ago we came for another mid-week meal around 16:30 on a Thursday if I recall. The staff as usual were great, we know most of them now and are very friendly with them. Drinks are expensive here so to make a mid-week dinner affordable my wife will have an alcoholic drink whilst my son and I will have soft drinks. Now the food is what id really like to talk about. During our last meal my son ordered the 6 chicken nuggets, chips and beans. It came with 8 chips which was incredibly stingy. I got the Salmon off the lunch menu. My dish was tiny even smaller than the normal reduced size lunch menu (but I have to ask why are lunch menu items smaller, do people need less food during the day?). One tiny piece of salmon, four tiny boiled potatoes and a little garnish on the side - wouldn't fill a mouse. The first salmon came and the skin was burned black, I had the waitress bring me another. Second salmon was maybe a reheat or something - was anaemic yet dry, some parts where chewy as if it were stale. I persevered and ate it (took me 60 seconds) and was going to complain on my way out but the waitress was busy.

Last week we came in again for a mid-week dinner. Now the menu has changed and the lunch menu now stops at 3pm. We struggled to find anything to our taste or affordable so we left.

For the manager - I'll likely be back for a few drinks with friends but probably won't come back for dinner any time soon.

Reason: You are very stingy with your food, portion sizes are very small, your meals on the main menu are over priced and you've changed the lunch time menu to finish at 3pm - I guess you cant have people getting those cheap...
