I travelled especially from Liverpool with my girlfriend because I liked the Wimpy there which has now closed. I wish I'd never bothered. Chips and cheeseburger were just ok, not really as tasty as I'd remembered. Milkshakes took another 10 minutes to come to the table even though the place was virtually empty. Manager was faffing about with something behind the counter when he could have been doing them himself. The young waiter seemed far from motivated and was being asked to wait on tables by himself and prepare drinks while the manager either stood motionless lost in thought or kind of faint heartedly commanded something to the waiter who most of the time didn't even understand him. Milkshakes finally arrived and were basically sweetened milk, no thickness at all. When paying I told the manager we hadn't drank them and that I didn't want to pay for them. He suggested that they'd been blended for too long and kind of blamed the waiter; well ok but that's still your problem and not mine. And how about taking some responsibility for the staff it's your duty to train, pathetic behaviour! And they were poor quality because of the very little ice cream which had been added to them and which I assume he's trying to scrimp on! He finally agreed to knock ONE off the bill but still made me pay for one. What a total cheep skate, I had to pay £3 for a cup of milk I hadn't drank. I wouldn't go and eat there again if...

So Wimpy located in the high street in Birkenhead.

The space is rough-hewn, with 80s tables and floors, very typical 80s decore, an open kitchen which isn't producing hardly any haze . The restaurant is clean and there arn't no smells deeply rendering beef fat. The food is served once again using 80s dinner wear. It’s all good old proper Wimpy as how I remember my last visit to one in the early 90s.

The restaurant is located in a rather rough area but this is forgivable because the burgers are fairly good. Indeed, I’d mark them, with the five gold stars. The wimpy beef isn’t overly minced still, and they prefer to serve them medium-rare, which is quite laudable, I had there new chili burger today at a price of Ā£6.50. topped with bacon, onions, ginger and chili sauce mayo, ketchup and fresh, crisp leaves of baby gem, and sliced tomatoes, which are there to give the impression that this might be healthy eating lol

On the side: I had a portion of there fries which were nothing remarkable but filled a hole

Thankfully there is not a brioche bun within site, but a proper white burger bun which holds the burger together for about half the eating time, but that’s OK. By that point you already have half the sauce down your shirt and your forearms, and our desperately looking for more napkins as the one they give you is my only negative as...

Visited today for a little nostalgia and it didn't disappoint, the service provided was absolutely Superior to any fast food establishment I've ever been to but then this isn't a fast food restaurant, it's more like a diner. It felt very comfortable to be treated like you were appreciated and every request or question was given their full attention. To an outsider of Birkenhead this was a real treat to see this level of service and is a real credit to the town, if anyone is considering eating somewhere in the town centre then please shortlist Wimpy. The food was great, only one of us could eat it all we could even order to take out. The food was ACTUALLY cooked from scratch and not defrosted then nuked which you could taste the difference. It might not appeal to big franchise chain customers because Wimpy clearly cooks their food so it will be different.

All in all, wherever you are from and you are hungry in Birkenhead please drop in, it would make your trip worth it just to be appreciated by the really friendly staff. It's a very laid back and relaxing environment. I will be returning a lot more from now on and I live over 70 miles away.

Thanks to the staff member who served us today, you made the journey well worth it and the food you cooked was better than expected. From all our...

I have been a customer service trainer in the hospitality industry, so I know what amazing customer service is, and this place scores the highest rating in customer service I’ve ever been to. I visited there Saturday 15th March at around 2pm. The young lady who served us was fantastic. Whatever wages she’s on, they need increasing as she’s a major asset to your company. She was so friendly and amazing with my son with special needs. She took her time with him making his order and went above and beyond Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, the chef came over and said hello and informed us he could make whatever we wanted. He was also brilliant at upselling without pressure asking if we’d like hot drinks etc. Super friendly team, and definately a place I’ll be having lunch again when we visit. The food was also cooked to perfection and hot and my son scored it 10 out of 10. Top marks for everyone here

I hadn't had a Wimpy since I was about 6 years old in the 80s and my local one in Altrincham had closed around that time, so today I took a detour from a uni trip to Liverpool to relive my childhood for a short while and visit Wimpy in Bikenhead. Staff were really friendly and we had a pleasant chat. The food was exactly how I remembered it as a kid. The half-pounder burger and the 'pork bender' were delicious, as were the chips and onion rings. I'd recommend them to anyone. A lovely experience, I'd definitely recommend visiting the next time you're in Birkenhead!
