Very disappointed, not with the staff but the management. I booked a table for today, 18/12/21 about a month ago for my family to meet half way between Bristol and Leicester, 7 adults and 2 children. Booking accepted, they then rang me back and asked for a Ā£5 a head deposit. I wasnāt able to pay it during that call but said if they called me back I would be happy to and it turned out I rang and paid them. Not once did they tell me it was non refundable or refer me to their terms and conditions on the website. Yesterday my great nephew, who is 4 and a half, was taken Iāll and it turned out it was Streph A, which has killed more than 10 children in the last month. I called the pub to say we would be at least 2 less could be 3, ie mum and dad. Again nothing about losing my deposit was mentioned, however I said I would ring at 10 this morning, I had asked what is the earliest they would be open to let them know, which I did and confirmed we would now be six. Again nothing about the deposit. When we got to the pub and bought our drinks, this was when I was informed I would lose Ā£15 of my Ā£45 deposit. At the time I thought fair enough as they would have given us a table to accommodate 9. However we were on a table that sat 6, we possibly could have squeezed another child on but definitely not another 2 adults too. We spent just short of Ā£140, the pub was full, and no tables were left unempty! Yet Ā£15 of my deposit was retained. I got back to Bristol and thought this was wrong and I telephone to be told itās their policy, itās on the web site, and if it hadnāt been for walk ins they would have had 3 spaces unsold, so to speak. But that actually didnāt happen because of the walk ins! The service was good, staff were very friendly and professional, but actually the manager, blamed me for being aggressive on the phone and shouting at her! I have a loud voice but actually I wasnāt shouting, just cross! And as I said I rang and booked a table, I was rung back and asked for a deposit, I wasnāt told about their cancellation policy or directed to it on their website. They didnāt lose any trade in fact they were able to accommodate walk ins! So beware, they have your money, donāt you dare have a sick child! Food was okay, but Iāve had a lot better,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited the Thatched Tavern for the first time on the 14th May. I reserved a table online as I was informed it would be busy. I did get an acknowledgement that my request had been received but didn't receive confirmation that the table had been reserved, therefore I called to confirm. The member of staff I spoke with was extremely polite and helpful. Our table was reserved for 15.30hrs but we arrived early and had a drink in the garden to the rear. The Sunday menu is quite small but perfectly adequate for what we required. I was in a party of 4 and all of us agreed unanimously that it was one of the best Sunday lunches that we have ever had. The prices and portion sizes are fantastic and the service was second to none. I would like to commend all the staff at the Thatched Tavern on their brilliant service. Keep up the great work. We will definitely be back to sample the week...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLovely local pub serving good quality food. We went for a meal on a Monday night, the bar area was busy with locals but the restaurant area was quiet. A small but decent range of ales and beers are complimented by a really good selection of gins! A few rare finds can be spied on the shelves so well worth checking out if you are a gin lover. The ales were fresh, a testimony to the busy bar area. We ordered starters and mains, the waitresses were really helpful and friendly. Portion sizes were very generous and all dishes were of a good quality. To steal a phrase - good honest food! Very reasonably priced as well, especially considering the quality and size of portions.
Well recommended if you are in the area and worth a trip...
