This was the first time I have used catchems end in years after moving out the area and coming back to visit family, but unfortunately I have to say standard have slipped since I last went. I appreciate it was late when I turned up so the chap behind the counter side they would have to cook the Cod with a waiting time of 5-10 mins, not a problem, 10 mins had passed and a chap that was obviously local and a regular came in (I assume this as he knew everybody personally and they also knew him after overhearing conversation) and he ordered cod and chips, so the chap behind the counter gave him the Cod that had been put in for me to my amazement! He then had to put another one in for me with a wait of another 10 mins! Also this "local chap" when asked for salt and vinegar lent over the counter grabbed the salt and vinegar condiments himself! Which personally I thought was quite unhygienic as his hands may not have been washed or even clean! So after a 25 min wait I eventually got my food! Fish and chips & battered sausage and chips with a drink for each meal to then be charged just over £18!!! What an absolute joke! I've been to proper sit down fish restaurants and not paid that much! And to top it all off the chips actually tasted of cardboard! Honestly I'd have been better off eating the box the chips probably came in! Very disappointed and will not be returning if ever back...
Read moreThis was my first visit to this chippy. I can only compare it to the place I normally go to for fish n chips.
The fish was a reasonable size, although not as big as my local chippy. The battery was on the soft side rather than crispy.
The chips were a disappointment. The potato was cooked through, but they were very soft and broke up when I tried to pick them up with a fork. They had virtually no colour and they would have been better if they had been cooked for longer.
I also had mushy peas on the side. They were nice but they came in the smallest portion I've ever seen. For the price I was expecting a large pot of peas.
Then there was the cost. A "normal" portion of fish and chips with mushy peas for one cost £14.75! To put that into context, I usually pay around that price for both me and my wife. This is almost restaurant prices for a takeaway.
So in summary, the food wasn't so good as to temp me back again, and the price has definitely made my mind up that I won't go...
Read moreOrdered mini fish and chips,1pc sfc, curry sauce and 2 sfc potato's... The potato's were rock hard like it has seen the oil for all of 1 min, curry sauce was quite spicy not your traditional chip shop sauce alright if you like spice (not for me) , the chips were absolutely awful hard not fully cooked, dry, most had bad bits ate 1 chip they were awful and binned... The sfc was the smallest piece of chicken you ever did see but was alright had better at other chippys however the fish was lovely fresh white flaky perfect shame the batter was soggy. Other than that the fish saved the day. It was really expensive too definately better chippys around here than this.. Oh and service is so slow too if there is more that 2 people in the queue...
