Father’s Day meal- we had a party in Kidderminster (We are from Birmingham so thought it would be better booking for a meal Kidderminster side so we wouldn’t be late to the party) Service was fine. Greeted and shown to our table. Issues we noticed before eating: The Watermill wasn’t very busy, Considering it was Father’s Day and everywhere is usually booked out was our first red flag. Sat down at our table- no high chair despite putting it on my booking notes. Off I went to find a clean high chair. Our actual table was laid out but it was sticky?? We have a a toddler so resorted to using them to give it a wipe down but it was still sticky? May have been the polish had came off but it made everything stick to it- menus- serviettes. Went to the bar to order- was quite surprised at the price- eating out with a family of 3 children and 2 adults is never cheap- but near enough £76 with drinks is quite a lot considering other chain pubs/ meals don’t come to that much when we go (which leads me to the next point) The food- not good. Not worth the price paid. My children had the standard fish fingers/ pasta/ adult Mac n cheese- and theirs was standard kids food. Myself and my other half had Turkey toast dinner (other half upgraded to large with extra pigs in blankets) Turkey- hard gristle on some parts of mine Broccoli- 2 pieces that looked like it had been boiled within an inch of its life Stuffing- now this was funny- a hard ball that broke into a million pieces when you cut into it- dry/ cloying/ tasted stale. Yorkshire- tasted old/ stale and chewy Roasties- again tasted like they’d been cooked the day before and had been reheated then sat under a warming light. The mash and red cabbage was ok just not a lot for £12 a plate.
If you take into account the amount paid for what we received it made for a disappointing meal out for a special occasion. We don’t have many Marstons pubs around Birmingham and I can safely say I won’t be hunting one out if I ever wanted to book again.
We ordered x2 puddings to share which took the total up to an eye watering £85 (approx)
If the food was up to scratch and was cooked from fresh or at least tasted like it was fresh/ hot then it would be worth the price paid, but no, won’t...
Read moreThe Watermill has just had an £130k spent on it. It looks fantastic now, and the location, the building, the space... all spot on. Best pub in Kidderminster but...
The same good old Watermill exists. They used to charge the world for sub-par microwave food, but justify it by offering it up as 2 for 1... so you could just about stomach it. Now it's the same standard of greasy food...(plus human hairs and a 35 min wait when it wasn'tbusy)... but at the familiar high price.
Again, I can't reiterate enough what a 6 place this is. Been coming for 10 years.
I would have expected, and I indeed hoped that after the reopening that the fundamentals of running the place would have been reviewed too...
Whilst I did indeed get my money back for the free human hair; and our server was apologetic (and embrassed)... the existing staff have the same sullen expressions which should be reserved for call centres.
I don't expect to be greeted with a curt 'Yes'? when I approach the bar with my order. Neither do I want a red carpet. Just human decency when I have chose to spend my money.
Why would I want to be there when half the staff clearly dont? Chefs/Kitchen staff shouldn't be parading the restaurant floor space in filthy aprons either. Simple stuff.. but just a bad impression. This isn't an indictment on the ones that want to convey a warm welcome and level of service... but you need 1 bad apple and there are many.
I'd carry on... but nothing has changed and nothing will. They relaunched without a fanfair, and they were probably right to.
If you want a beer or whatever in the sun, by the canal... theres nowhere better in Kidderminster. Great looking place. It looks clean and not...
Read moreWe went here for Sunday lunch 04/03 and upon arriving it was fairly quiet and there was only one person behind the bar and as I ordered drinks someone asked how long their food would be as they had been waiting 40 minutes. We were seated at our table and ordered within 10 minutes, as we were a group of 9 they didn’t put all the orders through until the last person ordered, no mention of any wait times for food and 45 minutes had passed and we had asked where our food was to which the waitress replied “they’re just plating it up now”. 15 minutes had gone by and we still didn’t have our food, I went up again to ask where this was to which I had a short response saying it’s being plated up and coming now. They bought out our meals and said to my husband the turkey dinner is on its way. Over 5 minutes had gone by and they hadn’t bought it out, he went up to ask where it was and they went out back and bought it out, implying it was just sitting there. The food was nice, it was hot surprisingly, but we had a spoonful of mash each and the Yorkshire puddings were really greasy. Overall to say this place wasn’t really that busy, the service really let it down, we won’t be returning unless I want to wait over an hour for a...
