We came to Abilene from Lubbock for the zoo, and decided to try a local restaurant after. We arrived at an off hour (2:30) so I can’t speak to what it is normally like at lunch, but there was plenty of parking. When coming in we were greeted with great smells, groovy music and very nice staff. As we had never been here before we took some time reading the menu and the nice attendant helped us with some suggestions and definitions of the unique names that they have for things.
We tried the “rockin rolla” burger and regular fries. The burger was fairly priced at $12.00 and the fries were $3.75. We were advised that people have said lately the water from the soda fountain had tasted weird and to come back if we had the same and have a soft drink. We found that to be true ourselves as when we sipped the water we got a taste of moldy flavor. We think it was the ice. It tasted like they hadn’t cleaned out the ice maker or filter in a while. We did need to change drinks.
The burger was great! The patty was cooked medium well (my favorite for restaurant burgers), the cheese had a nice kick, the fried onions were perfect and gave the burger a nice texture, the “nasty sauce” (ketchup and mayonnaise mixture) was good and complemented the taste. The BACON was great. It tasted very fresh and peppery.
The fries tasted fresh and were paired with the self pump container of ketchup.
The food was five stars except for the water.
Overall the experience was pleasant with good food, nice music, and...
Read moreMy husband and I are driving from S. California to Fort Worth, and needed a place to stop to pick up lunch. Wanting to support a local, small business instead of a chain, a Google search brought up Rockin Rollerz. Our order was for a Rockin Roller burger and the Walker Texas Ranger burger. My Rockin Roller burger was awesome - juicy, hardy, flavorful. I paired that with an order of fries, which were very good. I would have liked them a bit more well done, but I forgot to ask for crispy fries. My husband enjoyed the Walker Texas Ranger. He really enjoys trying different types of burgers. He would definitely order this one again. He liked that you can customize things easily and next time would add jalapeños. He just didn't feel like it today. He would order well done fries next time as well. We both liked that the fries were lightly salted - which we prefer, but were also offered extra salt in our to go order.
Thank you Rockin Rollerz for an awesome lunch that we could really enjoy instead of "just another burger" . We will...
Read moreWent early on a Saturday and the place was empty. We travel through Abilene fairly regularly and had not tried this place. It’s a short menu with a focus on burgers, sandwiches and fries. Great focus and excellent execution.
I had the Rockin Rolla. I had the sauce on the side. I’m not a fan of ketchup and the sauce is a classic fry sauce, part mayo part ketchup. I had this burger with Mayo. Definitely top 3 of all time burgers. The bacon was cooked perfectly—not soggy but not rock-like either. They toast their buns on the flat top with butter. Sooo good!
My wife had the old school with blue cheese. I snagged a bite. Yum! I usually like my burgers medium. They cook them medium-well, but they were not dried out.
We shared the truffle fries. I prefer my fries crispy, but my wife said they were cooked perfect. Ranch and jalapeño ranch are both made from scratch and are outstanding.
If you’re in Abilene, I highly...
