Good BBQ for the area, the ribs were delicious, pulled pork was good. I've been to some good bbq joints around the country, had my fair share of 'the itis' from ribs and burnt ends so good you'd think your mouth was bringing u to heaven. Really, that good. I've had pulled pork so perfectly smoked that it transcends itself and becomes another food entirely. Corn bread and honey butter so rich and smooth you could mistake it for pastry if you were blindfolded.
So like I said.. this is good bbq, for the area. Dont get me wrong here, this is on the higher end of bbq on the South Shore, and maybe I'm just too picky with what I expect from a bbq restaurant. Sarcastic Swine does a bunch of things right. They have everything I'd expect them to have, ribs, wings, pulled pork, sauce, sides, etc. But they missed the mark on some key details.
Their bbq wasn't cooked slow enough or long enough. The ribs were a little tough and chewy. Yes, the meat did fall off the bone (more like the bone fell out of the meat), but once the bone was gone.. I was left with something that reminded me more of a McRibwich than smoked or even slow cooked ribs. The cartilage was still rubbery and hard, and the fat hadn't been given enough time to melt away from the meat.
The wings were the biggest disappointment. Very thick layer of fat on the skin and in the joints that, like the ribs, hadn't had enough time to melt away. They weren't seasoned well either, and worst of all, I never even finished them. And I love wings.
The pulled pork was ok. At very best, the pulled pork could only be ok. It reminded me of a smoked shoulder that had been boiled in a crockpot for half a day and then given flavor CPR with a thin vinegar based sauce in a vain attempt at resuscitating the would be glory it was robbed of. This is where the sauce came in handy, I basically smothered it and then ate it.
If you're in the mood for bbq and in the area, this place is the best around and you won't find better bbq within a reasonable distance. This place has won at least one award, but I couldn't find what for on their website. Maybe their bbq is better at competition or maybe I just keep catching them on an off day.. They're getting better, but still missing the mark. Sorry Sarcastic Swine, you cook your meat too fast and too hot. You need to slow it down, good bbq can't be rushed. I'd rather be told 'sorry, but we ran out of that' than be...
Read more4/2023- We got two platters that come with two sides and corn bread. We asked for cinnamon butter but it was never put in our bag. It came to over $60 for both platters and they were good. We really love the cowboy beans and loaded smoked potatoes. Everything seemed to have the same smoked flavor instead of having a taste of its own like the first time we tried this place. The brisket and ribs are really good.
1/2023- we got takeout a few days ago. Last time we loved the food and had got platter for one to split, this time we got two meals. It cost about the same , around $50. The food was good. But a few of the ribs had almost no meat on them at all. And the brisket seemed skimp this time with two thin strips and one small one. The sides were good, got cowboy beans, coleslaw, and two of the loaded mashed. Some of the sauces looked and tasted a bit different from last time. The cornbread was good with cinnamon butter like always. Wasn't busy. Girl behind the counter was young and seemed a little lost. Hopefully next time we try this place the meats are like they were the first time.
4/2022- Our first time trying and we got take out, it was so good! We shared the platter for one. It was really good. We loved the ribs and brisket. The mashed potatoes were really good. The Mac and cheese was ok, wish it had more cheese flavor , or not so dry. Corn bread with cinnamon butter is simple but amazing. The meat falls right off the bone and loads of flavor. The sauces are different but good too. The woman Infront of us when picking up her order got all the sauces flavors, so we were happy to be able to choose more then two and asked for four types. Definitely be...
Read moreI got two items a smoked mini chicken which is chunks of chicken and had plenty of it, a good flavor but it is the sauce that makes it. I got the Hot like you Mama sauce which I couldn't resist saying in its entirety which made me and the woman taking my order chuckle but I think you can just say hot sauce and they'll know what you mean.😊 As Emeril likes to say that kicked it up a notch! Also the homemade BBQ chips were excellent just the right crunch and flavor!
My 2nd item the Phat boy bowl where you select 3 or more items, a base I got mashed potatoes then a meat I chose brisket then as many toppings as you want $1 each. I chose gravy and pickled onions which I thought would add a little crunch and it did was very good.
The mashed potatoes were thick and very good and the brisket was very flavourful with charred pieces mixed which added to the taste. A very hearty bowl they don't skimp on the amount and from what I saw might be the best bargain unless you go crazy with toppings. I also added some of the Hot like your mama sauce(sorry just like saying that!) to my bowl . Next time I want to get the ribs, I found out about the place from seeing it on Phantom Gourmet It looked good and a co-worker also recommended it , he said get the sauces and he was right, they have a lot of choices.
I think I saw one of the owners sitting at one of the tables working, I was going to say I saw him on TV but was afraid he might just give me a weird look and I'd feel like an idiot, but I'm sure he would have been nice. I also like the rustic feel of the place inside and the picnic tables outside.I give it...
