Title: Loyal customer here—kudos to the young pro, but please don’t handcuff him
I’ve been a Webster Springs Custard Stand regular since the hairpin-curve days outside town, long before the Shark Tank spotlight. Visit was Labor Day weekend, Sunday 8/31/25, ~11:45 a.m. Hot dog hit the spot. I came back (no line) for the soft-serve cone I’d planned to have after lunch. Looked like an early pull from the machine: not quite cold, a bit lumpy and slumped, and short of the usual height.
The young employee who fixed my cone was terrific—he apologized, offered me a cup in case it toppled, and (trying to make it right) politely asked the cashier/manager if he could add a little more to make up for the short fill. The cashier/manager didn’t say a word—just a silent finger-wag “no.” He deferred, and I walked away with a sub-par cone and the sense that good customer service had just been vetoed.
Credit where it’s due: that young team member showed initiative, pride in work, and real customer care. Opportunity for management: empower your crew to fix small misses on the spot—especially with early soft-serve pulls—so the experience matches the reputation you’ve built. I’ve been happy here for years and will be back; a little coaching at the register would turn moments like this into wins.

Read moreOrder usually wrong. Told the cashier no hot dog, only chili. Got home, it was only a hot dog. Since I don't have much money, can't eat hot dogs, and was hungry, I took it back to get what I ordered. The lady was friendly and fixed my order, no problem. Next time I got a chili dog they had managed to get the order right but it looked like they had taken a ladle and poured chilling on top of the Bun over that one person had stood on one side of the restaurant with a scoop of chili and the other person still on the other side holding the bun and the person threw the chili at the bun to see how close they can get and when one explains a chili dog and they ask twice if you want a hot dog and you say no...well geez, I know mistakes happen but I believe this pattern is just carelessness. Food kinda ok, kinda pricy, but as atmosphere of inside is vintage soda shop, and there are tables outside on street view on North Main Street and also in the back which is a...
Read moreLove this place. It's where I go when I go out to eat. Cleanest, quickest, best tasting restaurant in town.
Main complaint in the area is prices at the Custard Stand... Let me just say, I'm a Webster County native— Born and raised, and yes: It is more expensive than anywhere else in town(about 1.25 to 1.5x depending on what you get), but there's a reason for that here: Everyone else drops prices in order to keep people coming back, and that's because everywhere else in town pales in comparison due to extreme low quality service. You get what you pay for here. They have a standard they have to meet, and they settle for nothing less.
In short: If you're visiting Webster Springs and are looking for a place to eat, go to the Custard Stand. Anywhere else is a waste of money.
Also, should note that if you're coming from out of state, the Custard Stand isn't expensive. It's average price for other areas,...
