I've lived in and around Adel the last 20 years. When friends came from out of town and wanted "country cooking" that I didn't have to do myself, this is where I took them. A friend from North Carolina walked in with me and was skeptical because the decor was still from 1980, and it's cooled with window unit A/C's and always crowded with country people, farmers and workers getting their grub on and talking loud. Everyone knows everyone there.
When she left, she wrote a review of it on Google praising the place as one of the best food places she's ever eaten.
The fried chicken is the closest thing to my Granny's fried chicken I've ever found. It's the best thing in the whole restaurant without a doubt. And it seems to be ALWAYS on the buffet so you can get plenty of it.
The sweet tea is EPIC.
Their vegetables are country home veggies, black eyed peas, butterbeans, okra... and their other sides are rice or potatoes. On Sundays they do chicken dressing, and if you don't know what that is, look it up.
FTR: They do have some salad stuff but most just eat the "real" food.
I liked being able to go in and knowing some of the people eating, and being known by the staff. They always knew what I wanted to drink and where to sit me. I've been going here since I was practically a baby myself, and TOTALLY recommend it to others. They've changed the decor the past few months, updating their look for the place...but the food and atmosphere are...
Read moreOk, AJ's Country Kitchen is the "hole in the wall" restuarant that some of us are always LQQKING for! Great tasting country eats! The fried chicken was on point! Juicy and flavorful. The meatloaf was obviously grandma's receipe! I had 4 servings of meatloaf. That delicious blueberry cobbler must been grandma's receipe also! I enjoyed the cabbage and collards veggies. Cornbread I thought needs some help, maybe another receipe with creamed corn in it to create some moisture and sweetness. The Tuna salad was tasty. Good salad bar ingredients.
Note, they have a unique set of work hours... 6 days a week.. Saturday off. Open from 11 to 2pm. They start taking down the buffet at 135pm... they make sure you got what you need though.
Mom ordered a burger with crispy fries. It was a great burger exactly what she wanted! Menu changes daily, but you won't be disappointed! If we are passing through we will...
Read moreI am not a Buffet person at ALL! However, after church we stumbled across this place up in Adel we live in Valdosta. They did have a menu on top of the buffet. The buffet looked well kept and fresh so we gave it a shot. The food was AMAZING!
My husband said its the best fried chicken he’s ever had. I dont typically eat fried chicken and I was blown away how juicy it was. The chicken n dumplings so yummy! All the veggies were homemade - lima beans, creamed corn, cabbage, fried okra, etc plus salad bar. My husband said the homemade banana pudding was delicious!
The staff and owners were super welcoming! This is 3rd generation owned. And get this $12 for buffet, drink & dessert! We will DEFINITELY...
