Worst meal in recent memory. Will never happen again.
After working in the yard all day Saturday, my husband and I wanted a good, hot meal but didn't want to get dressed up so we went to Kaptain Jimmy's. The pleasant waitress informed us that everything on the first page was $5 a meal - nice but we were looking for a good meal not fast food.
My husband ordered a steak and baked potato and I ordered the $27 filet w/ mashed potatoes (well done-don't judge ;-) with a ginger ale, and he had an IPA. As we waited in the dining room we could not help notice how filthy everything was. Uncleared tables next to us the whole meal - dirty floors - chairs askewed. The place literally looked like an elementary school cafeteria on a bad day. We got our drinks and my ginger ale was flat and my husband's IPA glass was a dirty .
So, here’s the trick to immediately know if you’re dealing with dirty glassware: look for carbonation bubbles on the inside of your glass. Beer’s carbonation colonizes on the what should be forbidden funk clinging to the interior of any beer vessel.
With the exception of laser-etched glassware, clean glass should be smooth enough to leave none of the irregularities on which bubbles like to form. When bubbles cling to the sides of your beer glass, it is a huge red flag signaling that residual food and often soap (yuck!) is present in your beer and entering your body.
If only it was that easy to tell what still lingers on our plates while we eat.
So at this point, we suck up the drinks - no pun intended- but we are still optimistic, tired and hungry. Our steaks come - only to see my plate is full of red blood that is in the mash potatoes and veggies - yuck. As I had told the waitress I had ordered "well" of which (as nice as she was not so bright) as she insisted I cut into it to check... shocker - it was blood rare. She apologized and took it back to the kitchen. I told my husband to eat so his food would not get cold - when he asked is "butter" extra? The baked potato was literally a dry baked potato - but butter or sour cream would not have matter since we realized we have no utensils.
He is almost through with his meal when my steak comes out. And while it is no Ruth Steakhouse its adequate - it was basic cafeteria food. So you can imagine our surprise after skipping a second beer and soda, and the coffee and dessert the waitress was hoping we left room for....when a check for $70 was presented add the the 20%..... Never Again!
Lesson: Go to a nice place if you want a nice meal - the crap food will cost you the...
Read moreGreeted warmly, seated quickly, a fun place, great food, very friendly and upbeat and not very busy but perhaps our server was new. She offered 2 sides, we asked about soup or salad and were told there was an upcharge so we passed. Hmmm not what your menu said. OK
So we didn't get soup or salad but we did have to ask for bread & butter, it was kinda a big deal because the kitchen obviously crafted the loaves & flavored them and we saw several being delivered to other tables and were waiting and really looking forward to ours.
A different server delivered plates with lobster utensils and said that our food was 'coming right up' (it wasn't). After quite a few minutes, 4 or 5, our server went by and we politely asked for our bread and our server said, "Oh, you want bread" in an odd statement or question. Um, yes please. I mean, why do I have to ask?
So ten more minutes go by and our entree is delivered by the server who said it was 'coming right up'. 15 minutes is a REALLY LONG TIME for 'coming right up'. She says nothing but ya know, all is forgiven, the platter is HUGE, artfully arranged and presented with generous portions of perfectly cooked seafood served piping hot. It is delicious.
Our original server comes back with the bread and it was delicious and SO worth waiting AND asking for but we would have enjoyed it more before the entree with soup or maybe a salad.
The food is GREAT, we're really digging in and our server returns and asks how is it and we tell her great, etc and just after she leaves we realize that there is no lemon wedges anywhere on the platter. Broiled/baked seafood and no lemon?
We are eating and the server drops the check on the table and says there is no rush. We are perplexed, are we being rushed while being told the opposite? Stunned, actually. It was weird and unnatural. No even offer of a dessert, just the bill, and we were charged for our 2 sides! I picked up a menu and read again that soup or a salad was included with entree and sides are charged but she took the additional charges off the bill. We left way too big of a tip (20%) but felt pretty bad all in all about the experience. We may not return.

Read moreI had a Groupon to try this restaurant.(had great reviews all 4 to 5 stars.) So why I'm giving it such a low score.... Well my son and I walked in people were waiting and the restaurant was more than half empty. I thought maybe they were large party waiting for set up. They two people working the front told me its half hour wait... I had to ask why. And they were like the kitchen is back up with Valentine day holiday, Vday was Friday and its 7pm.... Like whattt!!!! So I had the groupon and I lived kinda far away. I waited... And waited... More people were leaving. They sat 1 person waiting for every 2 leaving. They had large bar which wasn't even 1/3 full as well... What the real kicker was.. A family of 4 showed up and they were sat before my son and I... I asked the family.. Did you guys have reservations or call ahead sitting and said no... I waited over 45 mins to be seated in a more than half empty restaurant!!!!!!!! BS!!!!! Our waitress was nice but was clueless or maybe not confident on the menu. I asked simply questions like soup of the day and vegetable of the day she also didn't know what kind of soda they had. I order chicken and rice soup- salt and pepper couldn't make it taste like anything. Good price for soup as add on...but tastless and wasnt even warm and over cooked rice. My son and I order a petite prime rib... I give that 4 to 5 stars.....amazing size and taste!!! Good price for it as well... And for the time of night was nice and rare! It was served with bulk made no taste smashed potatoes and some winter squash. Which I was told it was mixed melody... The bad taste in my mouth is the whole wait for 45 mins to more than half empty restaurant and then getting food within 10 mins for soup and 10 after for the...
