As a long time customer of Cafe Bijou, my last visit there was not good. We had a reservation for 6:30 pm on a Sunday, however, we did not get seated until 25 minutes later. And we were seated in the middle of an aisle, in between what was their patio (which was sealed with a cloth tarp), and it was a terrible table as we were in the middle of the area servers, busboys and other customers, who continued to walk by us and this was bad, as there were other tables open in better areas, but they treated us like we were not returning customers.
As to the food, they could have told me I ordered fried fish, cause if they did, I would not have ordered it. I chose not to make a scene as my wife and I were out celebrating a birthday. Then, through no fault of the restaurant, someone got sick and paramedics came....10 of them....and there was no way to enjoy our meal as for 10 minutes the fire department personnel kept coming in with equipment--not a word from the restaurant saying sorry for the inconvenience.
After the fire department left, carrying the elderly gentlemen just past our table, my wife asked the waiter to turn on the portable heater....our waited told me that the other people--seating a much better table than ours, told the waiter that they do not want the heat, so we had to suffer....this indifference to us in a place that is known for service, was a disgrace. At no time did anyone apologize to us over what was taking place.
This used to be a great place for food and value but their service and indifference to us, made me understand that cause they provide a value price platform, that somehow, service could suffer. I disagree, even if the food is good, how is one to enjoy such an experience if the management does not give a damn about each and every customer enjoying their time out.
Again I reiterate that most people at the restaurant seemed to enjoy their meals, but for me, how can I enjoy my time when we were mistreated--their were other tables where I would not be interrupted by passers by cause they were other open tables.
I guess the message is that unless you are favored by the disgruntled host, the low cost of the "gourmet food" was not worth the trade of being under appreciated as a...
Read moreWe took advantage of the Dine LA Pre Fixe menu.3 courses for a reasonable price.
We had 6:00pm reservations for 4 and checked in 5 minutes early. We were told it would be a reasonable 10-minute way that turned into 45 minutes. Oh well, it was a busy Saturday night in Agoura Hills..
First, the baguette slices and butter were delicious. For the first course, we ordered the following: French Onion soup, it was ok but not great, soup of the day mushroom and potato, very good, cesar salad, and a berry fig salad, this was by far the best first course, the dressing was tasty. Second course was: pork tenderloin, sliced with a creamy rosemary sauce, it was cooked nicely but nothing special, the meat trio was good, the filet (sliced) and shot rib were cooked well and seasoned nicely and the lamb chops were tasty with a jam sauce, the beef bourguignon tasted like an average pot roast, the salmon however was a hit at the table, it had a very tasty spice rub that was slightly sweet and slightly spicy but did not overpower the salmon. Desert was about the same quality, the housemate hot fudge was a major disappointment because it did not have a chocolate flavor and was more sauce than fudge, the flourless cake with raspberry sauce was good, the bread pudding with carmel sauce was saved by the sauce, the tiramisu missed the coffee flavor and creaminess that an Italian restaurant would have.
Once seated, the service was good, but the server was trying to keep up with the multiple tables.
The room was LOUD and had to hear our tablematesunless they were looking directly at youbourguignon used our phone flashlight to see the menu.
Thank you for participating in Dine LA, but there are too many other great options for your...
Read moreI was a long-time fan and frequent visitor of Cafe 14, which used to be at this location. So when another French restaurant came and took over the spot, I was pretty excited, and couldn't wait to try it. Coincidentally, it was my birthday soon after they opened, so my lovely wife surprised me and booked a table for our family to celebrate. So, what was good about our experience? Honestly, I have trouble finding something good. I guess it was that the manager came over to say hi for 10 seconds. What was not good: The 'ambiance'. Cafe 14 was a nice upscale place, and pretty quiet. Cafe Bizou has leased the space next to it, and tore down the walls. It is VERY noisy now. The food. We went with 4 people, and not a single dish was really tasty or even properly prepared. My medium-rare steak was cooked dry. The bouillabaise was ok to so-so and pretty salty. The fries were greasy. The steak tartare from filet pure didn't impress. We shared some of our feedback with the waiter. "Excuse me, my steak was supposed to be medium-rare, it is beyond well done." "Oh, I see, you are right. Let me tell the chef." And that was the end of it. Or to the waiter who had his thumb IN the bouillabaise when putting it on our table. "Eh, excuse me, your fingers were in the soup." "Oh sorry, let me clean that away for you." And he wiped the spilled soup away. We asked refills of our water multiple times. It never came. I asked for another glass of wine. It never came. At that point, I couldn't be bothered any more. I just wanted to leave. Which we did. Food half-eaten, we asked for the bill. The waiter never asked if everything was ok. I was, and am very bummed. And I really can't figure out why everybody else seems to be so happy with...
