I have been to this store plenty of times because they have a variety of good hispanic goods, never to the restaurant side though, this was and will be my first and last time. We came here for lunch about 1 p.m. Even though the restaurant side has a door it has a sign to enter though the store dooor please we did and as soon as you enter the store there is a pungent smell I can't put my finger on it but my party fellows said it's from their meats department, anyways we waited for a table and when we where seated they gave us 2 tables together and we looked at each other as 2 of our party where not able to sit with us, the waitress said to us when the party next to us leaves she would connect that table for a better fit, somehow the owner/manager came to see how we where doing and talked to the waitress told her to get the other table and sent her off as he left to she comes back with what seemed a TV tray for two!!! We made a joke about it but still sat down to eat. I was very disappointed with the taste of everything I had and so where 6 of my friends 3 of them said it was ok and the other one was 3 years old she didn't mind. I had a stomach ache and couldn't eat anything but alka-seltzer for the rest of...
Read moreAlways had good and authentic mexican food here. Tacos are top notch as are the burritos, flautas and fajitas. Those are all amazing and consistent. However after waiting for a weekend to try their menudo, as it is only available on sat and sun, I am sorely disappointed. Tough, chewy tripe, NO hominy and barely cooked pork knuckles made up this funky uncleaned stew of innards that is by far the worst I have ever tasted. Coming from NYC eating this stuff on a regular as its often provided as a staple in many mexican spots as well as food trucks, I could not have been more surprised as how inauthentic and poorly cooked this product was.
You could also tell it was almost cooked to order which is crazy. Took half an hr for my soup to arrive which makes no sense. It should be prepped the morning for serving through the day as these meats need a very long time for cooking PROPERLY. Do not buy the menudo or any soup for matter. Not worth the money and they don't provide a half portion option. 13 bucks down the drain for nasty funky uncleaned,...
Read moreAlthough it may be disconcerting when you fist arrive to find that the restaurant is attached to a convenience store, and on first glance, may seem a touch on the shabby side, take a seat anyway,or you will miss a real treat. the decor is 50s vinyl booths with mexican adornments on the walls. When you are seated, the waiter brings bowls of condiments, not the boring chips and salsa, but cucumbers, radishes, and spicy red onions. The menu is not long, but offers everything from tacos to ribeye steak.I ordered three gorditas, which were prepared with handmade tortillas and filled with chopped steak.they were so filling that I could only manage to eat one ,I took the leftovers home. They were delicious and absolutely authentic, and at a price of 3.75 per you cant go wrong. If you are unable to visit Mexico now, come to North Augusta and you can at...
