Ok... This was my first time going to The Purple Hull. I saw it on the news a couple of days ago and I wanted to try it. I'm a seafood lover so that's what I ordered. A Seafood Pick 3 Combo for $22. Which came with 2 full pieces of catfish, 4 shrimp (jumbo), 4 scallops (which I was charged an extra $1.50 for)... 👀... Two sides came with it and I chose mixed collards and cabbage with Mac & cheese. I purchased an extra side of sweet potato for $3. Which totaled $28.62. Now that's pretty pricey for one person especially for take out. But I wanted to give them a fair shot. I realized the $1.50 charge for the scallops and asked about it. If I'm spending $22 for pick 3, then why is there an extra charge for the scallops? The young lady refunded me. Said she was going to get clarity from the boss about this. If its fish, scallops and shrimp that's three. It shouldn't be an additional charge. I then realized the sweet potato was a "whole baked sweet potato" in my mind I thought I'd be getting candied yams... I didn't want that. That was a misunderstanding on my part and she allowed me to swap it for rice and gravy. I apologized because I didn't understand. On to the food... I really enjoyed the sides!! The Mac and cheese, the mixed collards and cabbage... OMG sooo good. The main entree... The meat... The shrimp were definitely jumbo sized, catfish ok a little salty, the scallops was so disappointing... They were so small, not even jumbo sized and once fried it shrivels even more. They were almost non existent and they wanted an extra $1.50 for them. SMH... I was surprised I also had 4 hush puppies because I didn't order them, didn't know they came with them. But I could've done without. They weren't fresh, tasted like they were dried out. Had a good flavor though just couldn't enjoy them. Tartar sauce definitely good. Not all tartar tastes the same. I will definitely give them another try. All in all it was a good experience and the...
Read moreMe and the wife and kids got there about 8 PM and the closed at 830 PM and we ordered and all the staff where friendly etc. The salad was great and the potato was great besides they asked if I wanted it loaded and I was thinking bacon cheese etc but it only came with butter and sour cream but that was fine. But I do have 1 complaint I feel like they rushed my 22oz ribeye bc we got there at 8 pm close to closing time . The steak was good kinda like if I had cooked it on my grill at home style not a flattop skillet steak by no means but I feel like they could have seasoned it with something they said they did seasoned it but I couldn't taste nothing and my wife felt the same way. Also I feel like they could have slowed down on the cooking kinda was burnt a little but we will be trying again later and we will get there sooner so everything/everyone is not so rushed . It was a nice meal all in all but for the price I feel like the steak could have been cooked a...
Read moreI’m disappointed it’s only 4.5 on Google. This restaurant is FIVE stars. Let me explain….. The restaurant has a country southern feel. The warm welcoming parts of it. We walked in as soon as the opened. I was greeted by the most handsome bald guy ever. The deserts caught me as soon as I came in. Someone has a sugar fairy in the kitchen!! I wanted something wholesome (soul food). Well, the dumplings and cornbread was a blessing! The pork ribeye was cooked by someone who has been grilling since 1972. I’m sure of it! The atmosphere is cloud 9. You feel the good vibe. The rest of the crew were attentive, warm, and friendly.
Please get lunch here only on days you do NOT have to go back to work.
Sis about to get a to go box and take a nap.
*I tasted the cake as I was packing up. Whoever is cooking all this food is praying over their hands each day! Lawd Jesus...
