Decided to treat myself to a steak, so I went to Frankās Place on Market. I sit down, the bartender greets me right away, and I tell him Iād like a steakāmedium. Simple enough.
A little later, the waitress brings my plate and announces āmedium-well.ā I immediately say āno,ā thinking sheās got the wrong table. Instead of clarifying, she goes over to the bartender, clearly irritated, and says, āShe said medium,ā then just walks away.
A few minutes pass. She eventually comes back to apologize for the wait and tells me my food will be right out. The second steak arrives⦠and itās again medium-well. I cut into it from every angleāno question, itās overcooked. At this point, Iām frustrated and done with the back-and-forth. I take a few bites just to get something in me, deciding to deal with it as āprotein is protein.ā
Thatās when the bartender checks in. He asks how it is, and I admit, āSince you askedā¦itās medium-well š.ā Without hesitationābefore I can even shine my flashlight on the plate to prove itāhe confirms and immediately takes it back.
Now Iām waiting for a third steak, and the tension in the room is thick. Finally, they bring it out and itās perfect. Literally perfect. Cooked exactly how I wanted. I get to enjoy it in peaceābut only because of the bartender. While heās on break, the waitress completely ignores me: no water check, no follow-up, nothing. When the bartender returns, though, he picks right back up with his great service.
Bottom line: the bartender was consistently dope and truly saved the night, but the overall experience was deeply...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI walked in with a very large party (something like eleven of us,) we were seated immediately, but when I asked for a fountain soda, the server with the short, poorly bleached hair snapped at me, then, upon finding out most of the group was also buying soda, and only a handful of beers, she berated us for it, we told her, forbid, some of us are trying to stay sober, she said āif youāre only going to buy a bunch of pop Iām not going to serve youā, I offered to buy food or any kind of soda under $14, as well but they either didnāt have any or the kitchen was closed I didnāt quite understand it was a bit loud, and this person had the audacity to tell us that we could stay for a few minutes, ābut after that you need to leave,ā essentially kicking us out, but we walked out before she could. She then watched as we tried to rescue a dog we saw dumped out of a car in the road, glaring as we were afraid she was going to call the police after having had accused us of loitering even when we tried to be paying customers at the bar. Atmosphere is also pathetic, itās akin to a dingy truck stop diner with mood lighting and a ton of random posters slapped about, and has an eerie amount of space compared to tables. If you work there and youāre reading this, the place could be redeemable if you get rid of the classist staff with a bias against the designated drivers that allow every bar to continue safely operating, and please try to help the small dog last seen wandering in the cemetery across the street...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI live close to this bar and have been going here occasionally for years. In the last 6 months on two different occasions when settling up I have been given a hand written bill that was for more money than the drinks I had cost. Both times it wad fixed but only after i pointed out the discrepancy.
On top of that the food and drink prices have continued to increase to ridiculous levels. Most of their sandwiches are $11 each and up and their hamburgers and fries combos now cost $12 to $14 dollars; for those kind of prices i can get a good 8 to 10 oz steak and a salad at most restauarants in Akron. Their standard domestic beers start at $4.50 with well mixed drinks at $5. For two drinks and a sandwich it'll cost you $30 including your tip here. Those prices are simply unreasonable for an establishment like Frank's in a city like Akron.
All that said I do love the atmosphere here, but it's a neighborhood bar NOT a fine dining restaurant.
I do wish them well and hope that the business continues to succeed but I, for one, will be taking my...
