Pastries and coffee are great!! Normally, staff is very friendly. However, today, 12/17/23, was the worst service we received.
Got 3 lattes, 3 pastries, which I told that I didn't need heated up. I get my coffees and no pastries so I just let Esa(? - the assistant manager) know and she said its coming, its in the oven. So I just commented "oh I didn;t need it heated, but ok". That comment seemed to have annoyed her for some reason. She just had a "look" on her face. So I wait and she finally hands me the pastries and they are the wrong ones. I tell the other person (blond lady with her hair up) and they finally figure out it's the wrong order. Esa goes and bags mine up and kind of throws it on the counter. No "sorry about that", "thanks for waiting". I notice one of the bags is wet and dripping from maybe where she had laid it. So i ask if I can get a new bag and she doesn't say anything, dumps my pastry on the counter, gets a new bag and she grabs a tong to re-bag it, but decides I am not worth that service and just hands me the bag to put the pastry in the bag myself.
While she was getting the new bag, she makes a face at her blond coworker...how do I know even though Esa's back is to me? Because the blonde lady smirks. I've never had such a bad service here before. Whenever, I go, everyone is super friendly and cheerful. But this morning, pretty much all the ladies working, even the curly hair lady had some attitude. The young lady at the register was fine...she seemed new.
Unbelievable and almost feel like there was a racists undertone as they were all caucasian and I was among only 2 asians in there and our orders were the ones they got wrong. After i left, I was so mad, I called to ask for a manager, the lady answering said he's not in yet. I ask for the name of the barista who was wearing the black cardigan and the jeans, and she asks "Why?". I tell her because of the poor service I received this morning that I wanted to discuss with the manager. She then lets me know that it was her and she's the assistant manager, Esa (?). I was shocked to learn she was the assistant manager??!! I asked her why she was so rude to me, what did I do to warrant such service and all she said was "Sorry". Someone needs to go back to training on customer service. It's too bad, I live in San Ramon we would go out our way to come to Lever for the ambiance, friendly service and the yummy coffee and pastries. Very...
Read moreThis place is cute, tucked away in the back of Alamo Square. I visited this coffee shop with a friend who had been here before, and who thought it was 'super' cute. I think it's a cute little place too. The patio is situated with a few tables and chairs alongside its banister so no one falls off it's patio, it's also a covered patio so nice to be able to sit outside when it's rainy or misty, with a hot cup of something
The inside opens to a large room filled with several tables and chairs all filled with people doing their thing, conversating, reading, sipping their drinks, etc. Prices, were a little steep for my budget, but thankfully the person I was with was kind enough to cover my drink that day.
I had "The Chai" - while it was good, it was a little on the cold side, and I am not sure if it's because it didn't get picked up right when they called out the name or because I was sitting outside where it was chilly. The employees were kind enough to turn on the heat lamps, so that helped some, but still my Chai was cold. :(
My friend and I ended up sitting on the back patio where it was a little more shaded from the sun, the front patio has a lot of sun. So if sun is important, try to get a table there. The back patio is nice, but it does get loud as there aren't as many seats and tables available. The day I was there a whole family, their kids and their extendeds decided to sit there too, it was LOUD! and it was LOUD to a point where I found it to be slightly rude and disruptive as I could hardly hear the conversation between my friend and myself. I had to repeat myself a few times and raise my voice a little.
Personally, I find it kind of selfish to not keep a volume level at a point where people around me can have a conversation without yelling. But not everyone feels that way, and it's really apparent when kids are running rampant and not being respectful of those around them, OR the parents don't try to keep themselves or their kids in check, including the volume. Being that they aren't the only ones who exist.
Despite all that, I still found the coffee place to be a cute place to be and hang out in. I am not sure if it's crowded and busy like it was that sunny yet chilly day that I visited, but going earlier in the day/morning might help in finding a...
Read moreVery impressed! I'm always looking for local coffee shops that are open a bit later. It's quaint and setup nicely both inside and outside. The staff is super friendly and hospitable. We had a Chai tea, an iced coffee, and a lemon poppyseed cake. Everything was excellent and well crafted! You could tell that a lot of thought and care went in to this place. From the way they gently and naturally direct the traffic through the store to the craftsmanship of the drinks. My only "complaint" (if you could call it that) is that I would really love to see a bit more for easy to grab snack options. I know, I know, it's a coffee shop, but when I seek out coffee I'm usually hungry too lol. I know they're still newer, so maybe more will be added over time. We will still return for the delicious drinks, lovely atmosphere, and incredible...
