I ordered a smoothie an hour before they opened and the estimated wait time was an hour out. I arrived first in line as the store opened to make sure they knew I was there to pick up the order so I could get it and leave as soon as possible. The girl said they were getting it started. I sat and waited for that smoothie for another half an hr. Watching a long line of people come and go after waiting in line and then receiving their food. They never called me even though they knew I was waiting. I finally got a chance when the line had died down to ask again about my smoothie, thinking the one I saw them make just them was mine. But she grabbed a smoothie that had been sitting in their fridge for awhile probably. It was runny and watery and missing the ginger that was in my order—this ginger add-in the main reason for me going out of my way to come to this cafe. She didn’t give me a label or receipt with the smoothie. I had to come inside and wait again to be helped, asked them to remake it but they refunded me instead. I didn’t need a refund, I just wanted the smoothie I paid for and waited an hr and a half for. I will not be back here. But at this point my blood sugar had already crashed and I was late for work. They threw in a minuscule amount of ginger into the watery smoothie, didn’t even mix it in, and I left for good. Their smoothies are good when they make them right but this place is too hectic. Waiters walking around dressed in printed bootie shorts and bras and massive piercings—highly unsanitary and a safety hazard in any food service—more concerned with their non-gender-conforming individualism and gay pride than communicating or making orders right, super unprofessional and I wasted far more time than it was worth here today for one bad smoothie and superficially friendly but totally nonfunctional service. The last time I ordered was a similar situation; they made my turkey wrap…without the turkey. I had to sloppily remake it myself in my car and hury to work after they handed me a few cold cut slices after I went back in. It really surprises me that a restaurant this busy has such a problem making basic menu and frankly pretty everyday food items correctly. Their greek yogurt tarts and chia pudding cups and all their other advertised gluten-free delicacies are always out of stock. I live in my car but I am going to buy a blender and find an outlet somewhere and figure out how to heal my body with smoothies my own way. Little Owl Cafe is not...
Read moreThis has to be the cutest coffee cafe in all of Alaska - its clean, up to date, and down right adorable. I could spend all day in here just admiring all the little details and tasteful color scheme they've got going on.
They have tons of sweets to choose from - each one looking more delightful than the last. They have each been made with care and all look absolutely perfect and tasty. Then theres the drink (and food) menu covering the wall behind the cashier counter - tons to choose from. I was so caught up on the coffee and tea selection that I overlooked the seasonal drink section on the far left wall behind the counter.
For those looking for something an little more filling than coffee and sweet treats, they have a decent variety of sandwiches and salads with a few sides. Personally I think it's the perfect amount - their main focus is on their drinks and sweets as it should be.
They also have a breakfast menu for all you breakfast lovers.
I ordered the potato salad which was pretty good. I also got a lime tart - an absolutely BEAUTIFUL creation, and a chocolate frappe with coffee in it. The chocolate Frappé reminds me of a chocolate coffee milkshake. Its thick, creamy, and has just the right amount of sweetness.
I fell in love with this place for everything they are - great customer service from the staff, cozy inviting environment, and delicious food and treats for a surprisingly low price.
I cant wait to bring everyone back with me next time I visit - this place deserves to be shown off. Five stars from me - I'd give a...
Read moreI did not realize this was a gluten-free place. I stopped in really quick because we'd already been to one bakery that morning, and my kids had eaten everything I'd gotten for myself.
I haven't had very good experiences with gluten-free baked goods in the past, so when I realized this bakery was gluten-free, I was like, "Aw maaaan..." But I figured I was already in line, so I might as well give it a try.
Well, I got some cookies, and they were soooooo good! I had a few bites, and then my kids ate them, too. Sad trombone. I hid the brownie from them, and ate it while they were sleeping. The brownie was top notch.
Prices for the cookies and brownie were great! Regular cookie prices. The staff were very friendly and warm. All the other people eating there seemed very calm and relaxed, with lots of people sitting down with their kids or having sit-down coffee with a friend. I think I was the only one in a hurry! The orders all go in line, so you have to wait for other people's coffees to be made even if you're just ordering a cookie. The vibe was so calm, though, that I didn't even feel properly stressed about that.
I think somebody probably worked very hard on the...
