Was visiting Albert Lea over the weekend and decided to try this restaurant. My first clue that I was in trouble was when I ordered teriyaki chicken (chicken on a stick) and discovered it was going to cost me 45 dollars for 12 sticks of chicken. I usually pay around a dollar per chicken stick.
I ordered Szechuan chicken and my wife got sweet and sour. My meal was 90% cabbage and had zero flavor. You may think "he's exaggerating, it has to have some flavor." But I assure you, there was no flavor. My wife also had very little flavor in her sweet and sour chicken. Her sauce was very watered down.
Each meal was about 6 or 7 dollars more than what I'm used to paying anywhere else. My brother also got food there and he reported bland and flavorless meals as well.
After trudging through my meal that I couldn't even finish, I decided to try a fortune cookie. I suspect that the cookies were made around the time I was born, 1986. I immediately spit out the stale monstrosity. I tried to break a piece off but found that the cookie didn't break, It bent and pulled apart with a malleability that shouldn't exist in a fortune cookie.
The lady at the front desk was nice and friendly and the only redeemable aspect of our visit there.
When paying for food we were informed that we would be punished for using a card in the form a 4% fee! I know that most card readers charge around 2.9% so I find it insulting to make money off of my use of a card.
I suspect that the owner is simply a penny pinching old miser who can't bother with buying fresh fortune cookies or using things such as salt. I have never been to a worse restaurant in...
Read moreI'm probably not the best at reviewing this one for the food because I love their egg rolls and mustard sauce, and I've ordered the same dish from here for probably the last 20 years. Egg roll appetizer, Pinnapple Combination fried rice, no shrimp, add peas, and pea pods (they should incorporate at least a few vegetables in the fried rice. Cubed carrots would be nice too, but I already feel like I'm pushing the specialty order, and if I make another adjustment request, they'll probably just tell me to go in the back and cook it myself. Lol) and if the dinner is for two I often suggest the vegetable lo-mein as well. It's a great way to eat family style and incorporate another egg roll or crab ragoons to share. Which offers a filling meal with a variety all while avoiding the plain white rice fill that most Chinese restaurant dishes come with and doesn't reheat well in the microwave. A little butter a touch of soy sauce and fried rice takehome will heat quite nicely. Vegetable lo-mein probably reheats better than any Chinese dish. If you shy away from Chinese cuz you're always hungry 2 hrs later, then try my suggestion and you'll have something to eat when and if you're hungry again and you'll have just opened a door to a...
Read moreWARNING! DO NOT GO! THE WORSE CHINESE MEAL EVER EXPERIENCED! We ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken that came with Egg Fried Rice and a Vegetable Lo Mein. I asked waiter to ensure there was no Bamboo Shoots or Water Chestnuts, he charged me for them instead! The Vegetables were old, too hard, the Lo Mein had no flavour, the Sweet & Sour Chicken wasn’t fresh, the batter was thick, the Chicken pieces were small. The sauce was the best thing going for it but that wasn’t saying very much. The Egg Fried Rice was meh but the tiniest portion I’ve ever seen. If you still aren’t dissuaded, notice the very faded sticker on the front of the menu stating that you need to go online for their current prices. I’m not talking about $1-2 or even $3 raise. I’m telling you the two dishes we ordered were under $8 each, but online were almost $15 each!! Btw, the waiter said he’d refund on the extra charge but then he didn’t do it. Check your bill! Or take my advice and go to a McDonald’s instead, for less...
