I just had my last meal at the flying Star It's greatly disappointing I have been a customer since the days of double rainbow for the last 20 years quality has gone downhill while price has skyrocketed the amazing atmosphere of the cafe was killed long ago I guess the robots were attracting too many geeks and too many people were reading the magazines instead of buying the magazines I get change occurs but I don't understand why the change is never for the better. It's as if whoever is working these days has zero passion for food The food has just been a little off and the number of flies have been concerning at times and for some reason they got rid of iced tea at some point and only serve this hideous peach tea and they usually don't remind you when you order iced tea that it's peach tea but today's issue was the final straw We ordered to go and my port of the order what is blueberry pancakes and when I opened up the box I noticed there was no syrup so either it's gone to optional and you have to ask for it or they ran out of the little portable containers or the syrup and didn't bother to say anything I could have worked with that but the pancakes were burnt as in the first time someone was cooking pancakes burnt and that wouldn't be so bad if it was just one but it was all the pancakes only one side of the pancakes was not crispy and that was the side they put up of course so you only realize when you go to put the butter on it which also was a little hard since the butter was completely melted as it was put in the same container as the pancakes but I'm done with giving people more chances whoever is running the kitchen does not have a passion for food nor do they have any concern for customers The problems have been systemic growing little by little off tastes weird choices complete lack of parking The bad choices of current management just highlight just how different it was from the place I loved I haven't been satisfied by a meal there for a long time but it took being served garbage to convince me...
Read moreGot here Sunday night an hour before closing and ordered the Chinese Crunch Salad and the Mediterranean Chicken Salad. The server asked if we wanted any protein with the Chinese Crunch salad and we said it came with grilled chicken according to the menu. I asked if the Mediterranean salad came with onions and he said yes then I asked for the dressing on the side.
When we got the salads, there was no chicken in the Chinese Crunch and we realized later there were no almonds. The Mediterranean salad came drenched in dressing with dressing on the side. It also had a healthy portion of chicken and avocado pieces and no onions. When I asked for the salad to be remade without the dressing, it came with a much smaller portion of chicken and no avocado.
The manager who delivered the remade salad and the chicken for the Chinese Crunch apologized and said we could have a free dessert. I asked her if i could have more chicken and when she brought it out, the portion was tiny and she said that was the regular portion of chicken which seemed a lot smaller than what the salad originally came out with.
When I went to get the free dessert, I commented on how wrong our orders were and she said we weren't the first ones to say that. I then said maybe because it was an hour till close and she said some comment about it being an odd night for the staff.
This experience wasn't fun and it makes me not want to come back to this location. I am shocked about how tiny the chicken portions are especially for how much you have to pay. I am grateful for the apology from the manager and the...
Read moreIt is with great sadness that I rate flying star only 3 stars. several years ago, restaurant had two or three wonderful options for those of us who cannot eat wheat. (Gluten-free pastries) Since then, they have discontinued one and then the other and then another of their gluten-free products, moved them around, switch them out, and now seem to have only one... which is the gluten-free very berry scone. Somehow, in the process have also made the scone almost inedible (!?!) It used to be a little crumbly, a little dry, but basically very tasty and a good substitute for someone who cannot no longer enjoy the finer things in life that containing the wheat grain. But they've changed the recipe or the cooking method or something. (My suspicion is they've cut back butter (again) and perhaps changed some other ingredients?) but the scone is pretty much almost inedible now - unless I take it home, moisten it up with some mist from my kitchen sprayer, and heat it very gently in the microwave. Which totally misses the point of going to the café in the afternoon for a coffee and pastry.
Coffee and pastries used to be one of the greatest joys in my life. Now that my intestines tell me I cannot eat wheat. I relied on some of the wonderful inventions that Flying Star used to have (such as the morning glory muffin. Which was moist and sweet and tasty. And now... gone.) Each time they make a change they seem to cut out one of the things that brings me in... and pretty soon there will be...
