I was here once before and the food was okay....service not so much. I returned today, May 29,2019 with 6 other people. No one even acknowledged our presence. There was one open table for 4, another for 2. We suggested combining them and were told we just had to wait. No niceties, no decorum. Our group of seven did contain three special needs adults, which I preface for good reason. We were sat and as we were giving our order it was explained to the server that one individual, a special needs person, was on a special, restricted diet and needed to eat what he'd brought. She promptly told us he could not. Moreover that it was posted on the door, it wasn't. We reiterated he was a disabled person on a special diet. The other six of us were going to order full meals. She didn't care. We had to leave and go elsewhere. Cafe Trang, in fact in the same shopping center, who had NO OBJECTION. I'd have left no stars for Ten Kai, but couldn't leave a review without. Shame on Gen Kai for the unexciting attitude and the obvious and blatant bias towards special needs individuals! I will...
Read moreSo I will start off by saying I have walked past this resturant hundreds of times coming out of the market next door. I am a bit sad that the first time I go in is their last day open. The service was great and I could understand how hard today was on them. The table set up was a bit odd until we found out they are retiring and closing up. (Which makes sense from some of the bad reviews people have left the last month and the tables) It didnt bother or stop me from giving them my business. Some of the best food I have eating was in places less concerned with atmosphere. I ordered the chicken Katsu curry just like the lady under my review. My food was completely opposite of hers. The curry had good flavor and not over powering. The chicken was tender and rice cooked perfectly. It was exactly how I expected it to taste. I never got the impression of it being reheated or pre-made. I would certainly eat here again if they were not closing down. Was a excellent experience and enjoyed talking with other customers while having our meals. Thanks for the food and...
Read moreI'll start with the positive. The service was very good.
The negative list is unfortunately longer. I dined around 12:30 on a Friday, which should be peak lunchtime hours. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, which could've been a harbinger of things to come, but I'd heard good things. My husband and I were seated immediately at a makeshift bar made of seven single tables pushed together that make up the only seating in the restaurant. Kinda odd, but ok. We both ordered the chicken katsu curry. The portion size was pretty fair for the price, but both the curry sauce and fried chicken were deeply disappointing. Each were barely warm, and the chicken had clearly been reheated rather than freshly fried. The curry flavor itself was pretty ho-hum, with a lack of depth or seasoning. Basically, it just seemed like everything was from a package, which whether it was or not, is not good cooking. I will not return and I do not...
