I've been to a few locations of the range, but this was my first visit to this newer location. We went for brunch with my mother as a random mom-daughter date on Sunday around 11:00. The wait was about 25 minutes, with a cramped area to sit in while waiting. You could hardly hear the hostess as she called out names, it would be unfortunately easy to be passed up. They took over an old steakhouse and I love what they did with the decor. The mosaic glass is beautiful and I love the whimsical cows everywhere.
The bathroom was not very clean as was made especially apparent by stainless steel bathroom stalls, it looked poorly kept and toilet paper was everywhere.
The food I received was just ok. I ordered one of the special breakfasts, the tamale with eggs. The tamale itself had good flavor but if I did not get any chili on the tamales they would have been extremely dry and not as well flavored. The beans, eggs, and potatoes were meh. I should have ordered the blue corn pancakes, which my mother ordered and loved. Plenty of pinon hidden within. It was an expensive brunch ringing in at over $40 for 3 of us with nothing fancy or extra. A plain waffle, the blue corn pancakes (with the bacon), one coffee, and my tamale breakfast. I could have made two of the dishes easily at home with more flavor and was sadly disappointed.
Another reason for the star deduction is the noise. There has to be a solution to dampen the sound in some way, it was so loud we couldn't hear one another at the table and gave up talking. We also saw a whole family of 6 with a toddler be seated near us who needed a high chair, then after getting appetizers and drinks, they were moved because they only just realized they couldn't put a high chair that would reach that table. That was poor planning on the hostess. The chairs surprisingly had wheels on the bottom, which for my mother that is handicapped, it was unsuspected and nearly caused her to slip and fall.
I'd be willing to try it again, but I like the Bernalillo location...
Read moreI'm sad to post this review because the Range Cafe is such a staple in the area and used to be a good place but unfortunately they have gone way down hill. Went in for brunch, when they have both the breakfast and lunch menus available. We both ordered off the lunch menu. First plate the BCB "smashed" burger. First of all when you call a burger a smash burger it's safe to assume a few things about it one being that it's thinner. Not at all the case with the burger I got, not smashed and quite thick. The cook was fine but the quality of the meat is suspect. The burger was absolutely flavorless, I could not pick out a single flavor out of all the ingredients except old beef. I even had green chile added, and charged a dollar for, to receive maybe a teaspoon worth of chile. The burger was an absolute mess too, due to it being extremely juicy and having an inadequate bun to soak the mess up. Half way through I had to give up and use a fork to finish it.
The other plate was the shredded chicken tacos. Again absolutely lacking in any flavor. I don't know if they ran out of salt or seasoning or just don't expect their customers to have taste buds but they need to reconsider the way they season their food. On top of no flavor they were as dry as the desert. In order to make them palatable we asked for a side of salsa only to be met with a sad side of crushed tomatoes with no seasoning or flavor you'd expect from salsa. The food was a major disappointment which is sad cause their breakfast food is normally decent. Not great but decent and leagues better than their lunch
Service was ok. We had to get the waitresses attention to ask for the salsa since she never checked in after the food was brought out. They were kinda busy so no real complaints there.
Tldr: flavorless food, ok service. They need to revamp their lunch menu and consider getting a cook...
Read moreThis was mine and my husband's first time dinning in and wanted to give a new place a try. We came in with our two children while our other children were in school. Wednesdays are short days here in Rio Rancho but the husband and I wanted to have a nice lunch out and had plenty of time to dine in and pay and still have time to make it home before our children's bus drops them off. Our experience was good up until the cash out moment. We pay at 12pm with cash (leaves us 45 min to get home in RR) but this waitress takes our cash and doesn't come back. I watch her for 10 minutes cashing out other tables while we're still waiting for our change. I see her see us (we lock eyes) but never comes back. I then get up and leave with my littlest because he started getting antsie and she SEES 👀 me do so... I pack my kiddo in and wait an additional 5-10 minutes before I finally see my hubs walking out... now it's 12:20- leaves us 25 minutes to get home. I ask hubs what took so long and he says that the waitress "forgot" 🙄 . I suspect the waitress was hoping to pocket the change (we paid cash) and because of this little stunt, it caused us to be late for pick up. And when I called to speak to the manager because this was a stressful situation for us, he blew it off like it was nothing and I felt he was taking it as a joke, he was talking between giggles and wasn't sincere. We will never be returning back and will spread the word as to why. Poor leadership. I do NOT...
