Editing my previous review after trying the restaurant again. The second time, the food was better and the lasagna had more sauce. We did think that the sauce and filling came across as sweet where we would have preferred savory. The vegan mac & cheese was very good. Plenty of flavor in each dish and a good place for dinner take out or delivery.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am conflicted in writing this review because the food has so much potential. Ultimately the dishes, all failed because of an absence of sauce and any appreciable moisture to make them palatable. We ordered the chicken, mac & cheese, lasagna, and cornbread. All of these dishes were dry with no sauce. Admittedly, we will take the hit on the chicken because we did not request a sauce, but we were shocked at how dry the mac & cheese,, and cornbread were. The reason I am conflicted is that the flavors and textures were actually pretty good. With some sauce, the lasagna would’ve been amazing. With some vegan butter, the cornbread could’ve been good, although that one was still dry. With some broth added to the mixture, I’m sure the mac & cheese would have been excellent. And a good dipping sauce would have made the difference with the chicken. In the end, though, the online ordering did not give options for sauce on the side or other customizations for these dishes. If they make changes, I would try them again. Flavors and textures showed...
Read moreI am only giving two stars because the macaroni and cheese was good but the rest of the mail was not.
Avoid the BBQ Tofu entree, which is excellent at their College Park, MD location. The cooks didn't press or fry/bake the tofu, and the BBQ sauce, if we can call it that, looked like watered down "DC CURRYOUT" mumbo sauce. If you know, you know.
The greens, which are usually slamming, tasted like dark green, chewable air.
Lastly, this ghost kitchen location is both chaotic, disorganized, etc. Just go to the jount in College Park, Mo. They do you right. I have half a mind to demand a refund.
I've never thrown food away before as I grew up dirt poor in SE DC. But this was...
Read moreWe ordered doordash while visiting DC as this was high on my list of places to try. I read it is a carryout or delivery spot only but google maps and the address they have listed were not jiving so we had it delivered.
They gave us a variety of sauces for the drumstix but I preferred them plain! Great crisp batter and flavor already. Tip: the drumstix taste just as good cold out the fridge the next day!
The collard greens were solid- maybe wishing for a little more tang. Now that mac n cheese-unbelievable! Super creamy and rich and melted in your mouth!
I am a sucker for vegan soul food so any time I find one on yelp as we travel, you can bet l am getting at least...
