Went here for a birthday dinner with the family. We didn't let them know it was my birthday, though, so FAIL on our part :(
I had a red curry duck, the lady had the Ka Prow (spicy basil) chicken. Both dishes were AMAZING and I went in with lower expectations thinking Sam Phao couldn't be matched, or at least it wouldn't be as good as Sam Phao...which, honestly, it's not...but it puts it's own spin on things.
Such as, the red curry has bamboo...strips? They're not the typical slices (rectangles) you generally see. These were more like noodle strips. Good spin and they seemed to soak up more of the curry flavoring. They also didn't have any sweet fruit, like the pineapple that Sam Phao does, but that didn't make this place's food lose any flavor.
We didn't eat inside, so I can't rule on the Aesthetics, but the outside deck was nice. If you go in the evening, though, make sure you have an umbrella/tree BEHIND you to the west. The sun shines down pretty hard if you face west (at least in September).
Wine was 6$ a glass for some house stuff...so meh...ok price I suppose.
Food 5/5, Staff 4/5 (she seemed angry?), Aesthetics -...
Read moreVery nice little Thai neighborhood eatery nestled deep in Alexandria Va. Located on a residential corner, it is easily located by the yellow exterior. The space is small but full of atmosphere. The owners put a lot into the decor and keep the place very clean, which makes for an overall nice experience. The service is pleasant and helpful. The menu is fairly typical for a Thai restaurant in America. The dishes are very well prepared and presented, and taste as good as they look. For a nice touch the dishes are served on a variety of Asian-style fish and animal-shaped plates. Very fun for kids (and adults)! Although not perfectly authentic, having a lot of sauce and a bit of sweetness that most Americans seem to like and expect, they do a very good job of representing Thai food in their style of preparation and flavors. Everything is served hot and fresh using quality ingredients. I would definitely recommend seeking them out and giving this establishment a try, you should not be...
Read moreWe have loved this restaurant for over 10 years, but since they have gotten a new manager recently, the place has really suffered. When we order for take out, our order is always wrong. Last time, I found a hair in my food!
It makes me so sad to say this, but Thai Peppers just isn't what it used to be. The service has suffered when we are there in the restaurant as well. We have been going there so long that most of the staff knows us, but the new manager doesn't like us and he just scowls at all of us. The first time I ordered take out and they got my order wrong, he yelled at me and told me they would never deliver to me again. He then proceeded to want the food back....all of it back, regardless if it had been eaten or not.
I hope they figure things out, I miss...
