The Front Porch — Restaurant in Alexandria

Disappointing and over-priced. It took an hour to get our food. Once received, the food was cold. My wife and my food arrived 15 minutes before our kids’ food. We ordered the burger. For $15 we expected it to be better than Five Guys; we would have enjoyed a McDonald’s 1/4-pounder more. We asked for refills (because no one ever came to check) but never received them. Thanks to COVID, you are required to order and pay on your phone up front, including tip. I wouldn’t have left a 20% tip if I would have known we wouldn’t have a dedicated server. You can't just walk up to the Front Porch and be seated. You first have to go to one of the sister restaurants next door, ask to be seated at the Front Porch, then they'll escort you back to the Front Porch. It's a little strange and we watched many succumb to this unnecessary back and forth.

We all enjoyed our meals. The smash burgers were especially amazing! The menu felt a little limited in terms of selections, which is why two of us ended up choosing the burgers in the first place.

Great location in the heart of Del Ray. Some good wines. Hit and miss food. I'm writing the review because of a salad we ordered with chicken as the protein.

The chicken on this salad looked like a crostini. It had been cooked, microwave and doused with gamma rays. See pic.

Come on, Front Porch. I live in Del Ray and appreciate our great non-chain restaurants. But if you're going to serve an expensive salad, at least make an effort with the protein. Even IHOP would be ashamed to...
