I live very close by but I haven't been there in a very long time and it was a very poor experience and I don't usually expound on these things. However, there was a man probably the only owner taking orders. It was $11 and change for a beef sandwich. I stood there for probably about 20 minutes and then I asked if they had forgotten about me and he said they only had one person making sandwiches. The fellow removed the beef from a container. Put it on the grill then poured some juice on it. I brought this home to my son and it was so dry. It was simply awful and my son never has complained about anything like this. The menu is extensive, but if this is an example it wouldn't be worth eating. Anything else there. Decades ago I owned a fast food place just like this slightly larger in Chicago Northwest side. My husband and I were owners and we did have employees but we knew exactly how to make the sandwiches that we had created. This husband and wife were not hands-on. Was very disappointing. It used to be a very good place years ago when they had sub sandwiches primarily. They were really great sandwiches. I wouldn't recommend this at...
Read moreFor food, the quality of ingredients, especially meats & cheeses, puts Algonquin Sub Shop one distinctive notch above the bland corporate drag on Randall. The smoked gouda on my Smoke Stack and the melted cheesy beef was top notch. There's your choice of over twenty types of Italian style subs. At first bite, you can tell the sub rolls are baked fresh daily. There's that true Italian sub crunch of the pickle and lettuce. The subs hit the spot like torpedos. In terms of service, you're greeted warmly and called by name instead of the vacuous indifference of droids yelling numbers. This is what makes a beloved local business different from just another corporate franchise. As someone from Algonquin, I respect the fact this business has weathered 35 years of economic turbulence with their uncompromising commitment to quality and friendly Midwest service. Bottom line: premium sandwiches in an inauspicious, lower traffic location off IL route 31 instead of the roaring eight lanes of Randall. The atmosphere offers both indoor and outdoor seating and unique, seasonal decor, like a fun candy corn pumpkin turkey in the photo....

At first look, the places looks a bit run down/dicey. Don’t let this deter you from all the delicious sandwiches waiting for you inside!
They do get VERY busy. The wait time is sometimes pretty long. I’d recommend calling ahead with your order. There have been times where they shut off delivery temporarily due to demand.
Everything is fresh on premises. The bread is phenomenal and holds up to the heft of all those freshly sliced meats and cheeses. My typical go-to is the “#1 Al Capone”.
It is piled high with Salami, Pepperoni, Mortadella, Capicola, Provolone, and Black Olive. The sandwiches are piled high, no skimping here! I could barely finish my sandwich, easily two meals there.
I have yet to try their soups or hot food offerings. However, I am confident the rest of the food is as amazing as the sandwiches.
If I’m in the mood for a sub, Algonquin sub shop is the first place...
