Food: 4/5 stars I've been coming here on off for over 20 years. Oh my. Yet I've neglect to write a review till now. Just lazy I guess and they already have very good review that they really don't need another.
It's my go to spot if I want a machaca (5/5) or chili verde (4/5) burrito. I haven't gotten one for a long time so I stopped by for a green burrito today. What I got was a Colorado (3/5) burrito. I guessed they got mixed up but I didn't bother and thought what the hey I'll just review the red one instead.
You should know that their burrito is not the dry type like say the one you get at chipotle. Their bean is wet and runny and almost smashed. Their chili both red and green are wet and runny. There's no filler like rice or vegetable. So you have to wrap up the burrito tightly and squeeze from the bottom as you eat or the wrapper will break and everything spill out at the bottom.
Red chili Colorado taste wise is just ok and will do in a pinch but nothing that mama will have to worry about. The taste has some spice in it but is bland overall. The meat is lean but on the dry side even in all of that wet and runny sauce. The spiciness level is almost nonexistent. Hmm. I almost want to call this semi-Mexican-food. But maybe that's over exaggerating. They do have chili bottle that you can squirt more chili but it too is not as spicy as I remember.
Atmosphere: 2.5/5 stars It's a bit of a rundown hole in the Wall Place. It's really a Togo place with patio seating added on. So on a hot sunny Cal day you'll be feeling the heat from the sun and the food. There's a drive through right next to the patio so the exhaust will add to the atmosphere.
Service: 3.5/5 stars Not much service except for the food ordering really. But the people are friendly and will get you what you need.
Expense: 4/5 stars About $8 for breakfast burrito and coffee. Cheap eat for the amount of food you get. I almost always get food coma after eating here. The carb, the meat, the amount all added up to overload your digestive system.
Return: 5/5 stars It's delicious and convenient. It's not fancy but it's only one of a few Mexican alternative in this heavily biased Chinese cuisine metropolis. After more than 20 years and I still return. Not many places can...
Read moreIf you're feeling like a quick Mexican meal, Pepes is it. This place has fresh, tasty made to order grub. The staff is top notch. When have you eaten at a fast food joint where the food is delish, the portions are huge and the prices are low? The staff is fast, friendly & efficient. I've been when the drive-thru line is around the corner and the walk up window has at least 10 people. Yet, the food comes out fast, fresh and correct. Those guys move quick! Fresh homemade salsa, chili, sauce, whatever you call it, I just call it delicious! Not too spicy but they do have a couple that are, if you can take it. ;) I ordered my "test" dish, beef taquitos plate. If a place can make great taquitos, its a guarantee everything is ridiculous. And Pepes makes great taquitos! Plate came with, rice topped w salsa, beans, a dollup of guacamole and 2 taquitos topped with more guacamole. But best of all, they are STUFFED with fresh shredded beef. You could probably make 3 reg sized. These are the best taquitos around. My favorite taquitos used to be from another place in LA, a landmark. But Pepes just blew them out of the water. They serve breakfast all day.....also got a breakfast burrito and a bean & cheese, (another, tester dish). The breakfast burrito comes with eggs, beans, cheese, potatoes and choice of pig :) again, stuffed with fresh made ingredients. Bean & cheese burrito, excellent! Like I said before, if a place can make a fabulous B&C burrito.......they can do anything!!!! It's the simple things that, when made great, set the whole menu......I love this place, is Mr...
Read moreMost disgusting meal I’ve ever had in my life. There is no way this was an accident. So please be aware of what they are serving you when ordering from this restaurant because they like to mess with the clients health. The only plate they will be serving you is food poisoning and stomach problems. This is something that every client should be aware of cause who knows what’s really going on in the kitchen. Also who knew that in this day in age now you even have to open up your food. Long story short, I was there with someone close to me, and we ordered what is on the receipt. Keep in mind that I was the last person at the window, and there was about ten cars in line before I took my order, and another ten customers while my order was being taken. I understand it was busy and close to closing time but that’s the reason why I called in advance to make sure my order was going to be made properly if not so I can respectfully just come in at another time. So I don’t know what type of burrito they made but this must be something new because I’ve never seen something like this in my life. The reason why I knew it was done purposely is because with there being so many clients that day, approximately 15-20 clients, I’m sure there would have been more than one complaint. There’s no way anyone would eat this. I’m sorry but this is something that should be taken seriously. I hope you guys get your Karma cause that’s dish is best...
