The owners have considerable experience in the regional cuisine - a rating of six on a spice scale of zero to five. This is precisely how the clientele prefers the food to be served - all the subtle ingredients and spices overwhelmed by the liberal dash of chili powder. It is satisfying to see diversified demographics for the dine-in customers perhaps enlarged by a better location from the previous challenges. Then there are the Uber Eats customers whose demographics are indeterminate.
The place is small but the owners leverage their considerable charm and flexibility to make newcomers very welcome. I only wish that they would serve the appetizers in advance of the main meal.
There is only one restaurant in the DFW-Houston metro areas that serves Biryani a la authentic Mughlai. It was featured in one of Bourdain's shows. This place obviously wouldn't even make the short list. The Haleem, although prepared with proper understanding of the key ingredients lost the interplay between the beef and the lentils on account of the spiciness. Inability to garnish the dish to taste imparted a rendering of fast food establishment rather than a true dining place. The grilled meats were forgetful in general but the accompanying fish was truly superb - uniform spice coating and more importantly fresh.
In short, if you are enamored by unreasonably (my personal opinion) "chili-hot" food that masks the taste of the other ingredients then you will like this place because the owners are very pleasant in helping you to enjoy your selections. I simply wonder what is the cut-off point before the dining experience becomes a detriment to...
Read moreWow. So it said best fish in Dallas on the window, and they aren't lying! I was in the mood for something a little spicy, and goat sounded good. As luck would have it out usual indian places were closed at this time of day so we googled up a spot and found Silver Spoon.
I got the goat karahi and that definitely hit the spot, not overly spicy, just a little nudge towards a sniffle. The tomato base is fresh, so it doesn't bring on the reflux, just really good taste. I couldn't resist the claim of best fish in Dallas so I got it as a side. While I haven't tried every fish joint in Dallas I have had a lot of fish in a lot of places, and this fish is amazing! It has all of the light aromatic notes, then the salt and seasoning comes in to balance it out. Or maybe ground it? I don't know, I just know it was amazing.
We got a chai just to try it out since it's a new place for us. Well, it said best chai in Dallas on the window too...
You guessed it, it's crazy good! There are wonderful floral and citrus notes that excites your taste buds even as the cream and spices sooth them. Just do yourself a favor and get one when you stop in, trust me, it's great.
The service is top notch as well. It was fairly busy while we were in, and we got prompt service. On top of that the friendly manner, and happy explanations made ordering the right food easy. If you are experienced with Pakistani/Indian cuisine, or looking to try it for the first time this is a great place...
Read moreI have been going to Silver Spoon for 15+ years now. Love their food...what made me a regular customer at this Indian food shop is the "spicy" gyros...it's this delicious red spicy sauce...trust me when I say this...I've had gyros from all over Dallas...from other competing restaurants and what makes this place truly unique for gyros is the amount of flavor that is packed in! Masala french fries are delicious here too. I also love the little ground beef samosas that the lady makes who owns this restaurants and the yum parathas too. Oh btw this place has alot of meat dishes so if you are a big fan of meat, then this is definetely your spot...the chicken seekh kebab, tandoori chicken, and fried fish are always cooked to perfection.
Oh and finally, as far as customer service is concerned...this place rocks!! It's owned by a small family and they always treat all their customers like extended family. I have seen them rush to bring your food when you tell them that you are hungry. They always do everything with a big smile...asking you multiple times if you need anything else to eat or more bread with your meal.
Silver Spoon Allen is the pioneer landmark restaurant to come to Dallas when it comes to serving halal food. They opened up in the 80's I believe and used to be in originally located in Richardson. Remember that other restaurants only opened up so that they could compete with them...so that's how you know they must have...
