We have eaten many times at Shibley’s on the Pier in Alton Bay with never a complaint about the foot which was delicious, fresh, hot and nicely prepared. The servings were generous and the service excellent. We were intending tonight Saturday, August 7, 2021 to eat there but the line was backed up for 2 hours because of the AB concert crowd (nobody’s fault) so we decided to go across the street to Shibley’s Drive-in restaurant figuring that it would be equally good given the same management. I ordered a full-bodied clam plate with onion rings $26.95) and slaw while my wife ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. When we received our order after about a 1/2 hour we were both disgusted and appalled at what they served us. The so-called full-bodied fried clams were the most shriveled tiny clams that were mostly clam strips and were rubbery, tasteless and more akin to rubber bands than seafood. The onion rings were overcooked, dried out and lacked any taste whatsoever and were limp and greasy. The slaw was good a basically the only quality edible item on the plate. As for the salad: limp, towards the end of it lifespan and the “grilled” chicken dry, overcooked and just lousy. We were going to mention to a manager but there didn’t seem to anybody over the age of 16 in evidence. It was simply horrible, overpriced for the terrible quality and basically on par with carnival food (sorry carnies, yours is actually better). In any case we always try to do business with local businesses and eateries because they are local, mostly people trying to make a good living and are usually excellent. This place and it’s food was simply gross, of obvious low quality and more akin to slop than food. We don’t usually write negative reviews but this was simply too horrible to believe. We think people should avoid this place if you want good tasty seafood like REAL fried clams you can get at Pop’s down the street which is excellent and reputed to be the best fried seafood in the state! The management of the Shibley’s Drive-in should be ashamed and we will never 👎 eat there...
Read moreThis dinner looks great! I got out of surgery and my husband ordered me the fisherman's platter. I remember mentioning to my husband that the shrimp 🍤and the clams tasted so fresh and clean😋 the scallops , tartar everything was great!! I took a small bite of the Haddock and it tasted extremely fishy 🐟 🤔, I've grown up on seafood right here in New England and only eat haddock due to not liking other fish. Typically this means the fish has or is going bad. So, when I called to tell them the woman that answered the phone began trelling me how there's no way, I took that out myself and I could check it and I've sold a lot of it today etc... basically calling me a liar. Very sad that was the response I thought I finally had found a great place to get seafood in the Lakes Region. Coming from a place of caring and concern is always a better way to respond to such things. The bill came to $36.89 and if not fit the fish and being treated like a liar it would have been worth even more. Really too bad. 47 years doesn't mean you stop caring about your quality or customers. Most of my food was perfect and they are above caring that it's not all to satisfaction....
Read moreGreat, affordable lunch options! Not just ice cream! This is my go-to dining spot within a 15-20 mile radius of this part of the Lake. I alternate between the cheese burger and the lobster roll, depending on what suits my mood and palate. Both are of exquisite quality ingredients, expertly prepared, and the wait staff/kitchen has always been friendly and accommodating. This spot is located directly across the street from their sister venue, Shibley's At The Pier. This is the more low-key spot. It is also great for families and for any discriminating diner who is looking to fill up on a budget. While the dine-in restaurant on the water is pricey (but fair, given the location), this place is a rare gem that delivers outstanding value for your dollar. Bon apetit! UPDATE: I decided to treat my friend's cats with a morsel of lobster and they loved it. It was very hard to part with, as it was delicious, but they were moving cross country, so a little luxurious parting gift seemed...
