My family and I moved to Amarillo from Chicago roughly a year ago. We have heard from the locals that we had to try La Bellas on Olsen specifically for our cravings of a deep dish Chicago styled pizza. Hearing that the man behind the pizza is supposedly a Chicago native made us believe we could finally scratch the itch of a pizza reminding us of home.
My family and I were utterly repulsed at the “pizza” we received after a TWO HOUR WAIT. So, I’ll list the the things they got wrong, since there was nothing right.
-A “deep dish” or “stuffed” pizza comes with a flakey crust. The crust we received was still raw for the most part, all the while, the edge was burnt….explain that one. Normally, you would smell the fresh dough in the oven upon walking into a pizza parlor. There was no such aroma.
-When the waitress asked if we would like some parmesan, I thought, okay well I would expect there to be enough mozzarella in there to make it so I don’t need parmesan despite maybe a couple shakes for just an addition. I had no idea that that parmesan she was talking about WAS the cheese for the entire pizza. A traditional deep dish pizza has a cheese pull effect from the COPIOUS amounts of FRESH mozzarella. Believe it or not, pizza parlors will go into competitions for the length of their cheese pulls. I have seen Domino’s pizzas with more of a cheese pull than this sorry excuse for a normally glorious eating experience. If you’re going to shake some Great Value parmesan over my deep dish pizza, you don’t claim you’re from Chicago because you know better.
-Let’s talk sauce….or lack there of. Not only was there an alarming minimal amount of sauce, but that was the taste as well, minimal. A couple cranks of an Italian herb grinder from Sam’s Club at the very least, please!
I am disappointed and ashamed that this pizza bore the distinction of a deep dish pizza from Chicago. There was zero resemblance. The worst part about this, is that people who experience this pizza will inevitably think this is what a deep dish is all about. Let me be the first to tell you, this isn’t it, and never will be.
Leave my city’s name off...
Read moreOrdered 2 pizzas at 9:09pm on a Thursday evening for delivery. After the order was in I noticed right away I made a mistake on the hotel address and called and told them the updated address. They said they would get that order out to us asap. Estimated time of delivery was 1 hr. I was called at 10:18 which I missed the call as I was outside waiting for them. The message said we were just wondering when you'd be here to pick up your order!?!? So I called back at 10:30 when I received the message and a lady answered and asked when I would be there. I said I ordered delivery. She replied with that she was the one who talked to me earlier when I called to arrange it for pick up!?!?!? Really???? I called to update our address and hotel info for DELIVERY!!! She was basically calling me a liar as she was lying to me over the phone. I did not respond well to that and told her she is full of it and I had 3 witnesses that heard my first conversation and heard that I was just updating my delivery address. She snottingly said well I guess we'll get it out to you. This was almost funny as she lied through her teeth and she wasn't even the gal I talked to the first time. The pizza finally arrived at 10:55pm. I have to say that my opinion of the food is that it is great. Both pizzas hot and tasty. So I am changing my rating from a 1 to a 4 cuz I can look past certain things and show mad respect for the food itself. Overall opinion on the food is that it is a must try. Still a bit steamed that the gal I last talked to lied right to me and then basically called me a liar but whatever....its a big recommend to give this pizza a shot. Loved the food and worth the...

Since my last review of Big Jim’s I placed several delivery orders. Two of them I called after food was delivered and complained about delivery time and quality of food. One order was warm and tonight’s ordered was just above cold. The fries had wilted, the steak, mushrooms, cheese, and bread seemed they had been left outside for 15-20 minutes before they left Big Jim’s. I was aware delivery could be up to 1 1/2 hours and stated I’m fine with that as long as it’s delivered hot. The lady taking my order stated it will be hot Bobby. As mentioned it wasn’t. I was offered a $4.00 discount on a $20.00 order. Each time I have been offered a discount. It’s been many, many years back I managed a Pizza Hut restaurant and a Pizza Hut delivery site. At the restaurant the food was always hot but on occasion the order was wrong. Customers were told our apologies we will put the wrong order in a box for you to take home and the correct order will be at the table in 15 minutes and your meal is on us (no charge). When it was a delivery issue the offer was the same except the order will be there 15 minutes after it clears the oven. Never had a call back on the remake. I suggest to others calling and the delivery is long to place a call in and pick it up. I have not had an issue with dine in or carry out...
