I had been here about 5 years ago on business and enjoyed my experience here. I found myself back in town on business yet again and wanted to see how they were doing. The restaurant was starting to fill up during dinner time but I was quickly seated. Brenda was my server and she was very polite and attentive. Chips and salsa arrived. The chips were just ok and the non-hot salsa was in a squeeze bottle. This did not work with the chips because the salsa was so runny and I made a mess on the table trying to eat it with chips. I ordered the chicken taco plate with rice and beans. The food arrived at a timely manner. A squeeze bottle of hotter salsa arrived and it was very easy to apply it to the tacos. 😁 The corn tortillas tasted so fresh. The chicken was good and the ingredients were fresh. The rice and beans were very tasty, as I added the hot salsa to them. I would definitely come back but just ask that the restaurant provides better table salsa for the chips. I would definitely recommend this place to Mexican food lovers!

The customer service here is great. Employees where very kind and respectful. I ordered the camarones al mojo de ajo, and it was ok. The shrimp didnt really have any flavor. I cook at home and I think my food is way more satisfying and flavorful. My husband ordered Camarones a la mexicana and he felt the same way about his food. Now My mom ordered las tostadas de ceviche and that was good she let me try it out. It did have good flavor. I do recommend that dish but not the other two. This was my first time coming here so don't know if it is always like that. But I don't think I'll be visiting again. Either way they have great customer service.

The food was absolutely inedible. I ordered the chile rellenos and it was bland, flavorless and mushy, as if it had beef sitting in a pan for days. It absolutely was not fresh. My wife's taco plate was the same. We took two bites and couldn't take another. I told the waitress as kindly as I could that the food was terrible and I was not able to eat it. She responded with "no one has ever said that, do you want the check"? Her indifference was appalling. I paid $30 and left the food behind. We are not picky eaters and have never done this before.

We have found us our newest favorite Mexican food restaurant!! First time I was here was for breakfast, and let me tell you I was very impressed.! Reminded me when I was back home and my mom would make us breakfast on the weekends and mannnn, it just hits different. But then I decided to take the family to a nice evening of fun, laughter, and of course food. The waitstaff themselves are great, very friendly, attentive, always walking around making sure if you need something, that they are on it But the food..!! Man ole man, it's on another level, this is not tex-mex, pr just your average restaurant that serves Mexican dishes, no sir-rey, they specialize in only Mexican dishes!! The menu seems endless, so best of luck on deciding on what to order, but we have ordered Chicken fajitas, smashing and hott, Gorditas with beef steak and we add the green tomatillo sauce on it, has a pretty good bite for spiciness, and then finally the Guisado De Puerco Verde, this dish rite here is the bomb, very, very rich in flavor, very tender, and plenty of food to fill you up and should have some left to take home. You'll get free chips and hotsauce when your seated, always a win-win But the fresh homemade corn tortillas are where the money is at, depe ding on the dish, you'll get to choose between corn or flour, always go for corn, but you can also order a dozen tortillas to take home with you, for $11 a dozen!! But I could go on and on, but I think you get my gist that this is a place that deserves for you to try out for yourself . But always remember Be safe, have fun, make...

I am a fan, big time, of family owned/ran Mexican restaurants, I always prefer to support them over corporate "Mexican" or Tex-Mex franchises. It's usually a very satisfying experience to visit this type of place most times, especially if you find that everyone in these places speaks Spanish and is Mexican, Mexican-American or Latino. However, El Charro was a big disappointment. First, the entire place smells like a urinal. Second, even though the menu shows all the usual Mexican dishes (chile relleno, enchiladas, etc.), they are not that good. I got sick the day after I had dinner there. Third, the service is not good, I was not checked on and my water was not refilled the whole time I was there. Fourth, it is quite expensive for what they offer. I paid over $20 for a chile relleno plate (typical, generic microwaved flavorless poblano pepper stuffed with queso from a can or bag, with a splosh of refried beans and a spoonful of rice next to it) and one small scoop of what they called "guacamole", which in reality was no more than 10 small chunks of avocado with a couple of small chunks of tomato and a tiny bit of cilantro. On top of that, this place charges a "cash adjustment" fee if you pay with a card. I was ready to walk away the moment I sat down and noticed the strong urine smell, but I had been driving for about 7 hours, I was extremely tired and hungry, and my hotel was next door, so I just decided to hope for the best. Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of restaurants in that area of Amarillo, but do yourself a favor and find somewhere...

Morning waitress in the morning looks unhappy no smile and just looks like she either hates her job or her life or both. Been here many times the food is decent but just her attitude. Asked her for chili powder and she brought me what looked like 10 grains of sand instead of the cup with the spoon that you normally bring with posole. Another time they had no chips and they don't make tostadas. So we asked if they could toast some corn tortillas. She said she asked the kitchen came back and said that could make them but we had decided to just get something else. 20 minutes later she brought the tosted but what seemed like burnt tortillas that we never ordered but only asked about it. When we said we wouldn't be wanting them she replied ill throw them away in a bit. Like trying to make us feel bad. Another time restaurant had just open we were the 1st customers but we never got attended or waited on until another customer got there and then she took his order 1st while we just waited until she decided to come attended to us. Just non stop sourness from this individual because no matter how we enjoy the food we will not...
