The first time I tried a Döner Kebab was in Stadthagen, Germany, and from that very first bite, I knew it was the best sandwich I would ever taste. During my months of living there, I indulged in nearly one Döner a day, fully aware that this luxury would eventually come to an end when I returned to the states. I still remember gazing out of the plane window heartbroken, as the faint twinkle of my favorite Döner shop faded into the distance. Back home, I began chasing that high. I spent an entire summer obsessively trying to perfect the traditional fladenbrot (Döner bread). Every failed attempt only fueled my determination. I needed that taste again, I craved it, I had to have it. A few days ago I arrived in Los Angeles, ready to start a new chapter. Yet, that unforgettable sandwich lingered in my mind. Could I possibly find a Döner here? I quickly pulled out my phone and opened the maps app, and there it was… DonerG. My eyes widened, and I gasped. A Döner shop? In LA? Could it possibly compare to the authentic ones I munched every day in Germany? I had to find out. Walking into the restaurant, I was greeted by two of the kindest staff I’ve ever encountered. Despite my skepticism, when the food arrived, it looked authentic. It smelled authentic. I snapped a quick photo, but I couldn’t wait any longer. That first bite was a rush of euphoria washing over me. One that could only be described as peace. Every flavor, every texture, transported me back to that first Döner I had so long ago. This was it. This was exactly what I had been longing for. If DönerG offered a lifetime membership, I would pay any price. The food isn’t just a 10, it makes LA a 10. Whether you’re a homesick German or a curious tourist craving something new, DönerG is the place to go. Thank you, DönerG. Ich liebe dich.

I love the food, BUT I hesitate to come more than I would like to because every single time I do come something goes wrong. Once, my husband who is allergic to sesame and couldn’t have their sauce (that has sesame in it) asked for plain yogurt and they gave a headache and refused to give a tablespoon of plain yogurt to accommodate him. So, in the end, my husband had to go next door to the 7-Eleven to buy ranch dressing. Most recently, they had two menus with two different prices (PICTURES) ; when we ordered, we ended having to pay an additional $5 for THEIR negligence to remove one of the menus. Also, when we ordered food, we were told it would take long and gave us an estimate of 20-25 minutes. 30 minutes later, the employee said it would take an additional 10 minutes. 20-25 and 40 minutes is a big difference (double the time). We ended up getting our order 45 minutes later with uncooked chicken (the chicken that took 45 minutes to cook supposedly). (PICTURES) What was most upsetting was that no apology was given; instead, we were treated as if we were impatient (which is not the case, because we asked after 30 minutes, 5-10 minutes extra after placing the order). On top of these personal experiences, the employees always seem sad and unwelcoming. Terrible attitude. The food is yummy but the management/staff needs to be better. We see that there is a second location and will be trying out that spot in hopes of a better experience!

So, it’s been a long while since I had Doner. While looking for shawarma lunch while In the Anaheim area, I was glad to find this Turkish restaurant called DonerG. It was a big disappointment to find out they don’t serve Doner…there was an option between chicken and beef shawarma. No Doner…. Anyways I asked for Doner (google: Classic döner kebab, et döner, consists of a heavily seasoned mixture of beef and lamb that is pureed into a paste, shaped into a log, and finally slow-roasted for hours on a vertical spit to juicy perfection. ) and got shawarma. It was below average average shawarma and portion was very small. Don’t come here if you’re looking for Doner. They should change the misleading name..

Second time going to this place in 3 days. I don't even live close by. They only serve halal meat which is already a good sign of quality and health consciousness. Atmosphere is inviting and has a modern touch and feeling to it. Menu is not very large but offers many different types of food. I live about 45 miles away but the first time we were going to Disneyland and this time to Long Beach but had to take a detour to get some more food from here. Food is delicious, being muslim and vegan I cannot comment on the quality of anything other than the vegan stuff. The street fries without feta and substitute the meat for falafel chopped up and top it off with the garlic sauce and Serrano green chili sauce is heavenly. The hummus mixed with the green sauce and some of the red sauce is great combo. The first time we waited for over 30 mins to get our food out, given that they were busy. Despite being fully staffed they couldn't keep up with orders, very disorganized. They are scattered all over with focus on multiple orders instead of completing one at a time. This causes the orders being forgotten or being made incorrectly or missing items. I had the same experience of waiting for our food the second time despite being a group of 3 and only 4 other patrons in the store whom, if I may add, had already placed and gotten their orders. Took about 20 mins to get our food, and once again missing items and/or prepared incorrectly. Despite this mishap of disorganization, probably due to the lack of good management and/or training or guidance from administration the food is delicious, which is why I keep coming back. Not very many vegan choices out there that taste good, but this place has delivered everytime. I will be back again for sure, possibly try another one of their locations to compare service and food quality.

Food is very fresh. Cooked to order. Vegan choices available. Vegetarian choices available. Halal meat only and always.

Would have given 5 stars if they were more organized and food was taken out and prepared faster. Possibly think about having an assembly line process for each order...
